Ariana Grande went for a dominatrix look. Kim Kardashian took her favorite plunging neckline even lower, and even the ball-skirt-loving Taylor Swift dared to don a super-short playsuit.
It was all about experimental styles at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, and the end results weren’t always 100% successful. One who did get the formula right, though, was Victoria Justice. She perfected the concoction of young, fun, and fashion-forward in an Alice + Olivia cropped corset top and a Lublu Kira Plastinina high-low petal skirt. Her neon pearl green Edie Parker #hashtag clutch also managed to do the impossible: it took our attention away from Victoria’s shoes. It’s just really cute!

By the way, does Victoria’s look at the 2014 MTV VMAs remind you of the Stephane Rolland dress Kim Kardashian wore to the 2012 MTV EMAs? Their mullet skirts have the same ruffly style, the same high-low cut, and the same tendency to be unfortunately compared to garbage bags.

While Kim couldn’t go wrong with Christian Loboutin’s “Bis Un Bout” pumps (which was a very popular style back then), we dig Victoria’s Jimmy Choo “Maya” pumps more. Check them out up close:

The little bows inject a girlish touch to the shoes’ otherwise mature style.
