Vanessa Hudgens shared that her butterfly neck tattoo was a spontaneous decision, although she had wanted it for years. The tattoo symbolizes her name, derived from a butterfly that landed on her mother’s stomach before birth.
“It was very last minute, but I’ve actually wanted it for years. A butterfly landed on my mum’s stomach a week before I was born and that’s how I got my name, because Vanessa means butterfly – it’s a Latin derivative,” she said during an interview on the Late Show with David Letterman in 2011.
“It’s my very first tattoo, and I kind of feel like a badass now!”
