Michelle Yeoh has had a few hits and misses on the red carpet throughout her career. But most of the time, she makes incredible clothing selections that are often sophisticated, timeless, and have sleek silhouettes.

Her most recent appearance at the 2024 Gold Gala did not disappoint; she looked elegant in a cream Schiaparelli tweed skirt suit with some quirky accessories that, I think, balanced out the ensemble’s more traditional silhouette. She did, however, appear uncomfortable in her Sergio Rossi pumps.

The 2024 Gold Gala

The 3rd Annual Gold Gala celebrated AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) leaders and game-changers who made the Gold House A100 List and significantly influenced culture and society the previous year.

As per the press release, this year’s theme, “A Gold New World,” envisions “a tomorrow for all, built by all.” This year’s honorees include Cynthia Erivo, Saweetie, Padma Lakshmi, Dev Patel, Keanu Reeves, Lucy Liu, and the cast and creators of Beef.

Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki, Hybe chairperson Bang Si-Hyuk, K-pop BTS member Jungkook, K-pop group Ateez, US Olympians and Paralympians, content creator Valkyrae, and even fictional character Hello Kitty were also honored at the event.

Timelessly Elegant and Professional in Tweed Skirt Suit

While many others wore flashy gowns and black-tie outfits that honor their roots, Michelle Yeoh, who was at the event to present Cynthia Erivo with the Gold Ally Honor, opted for a classic style, exuding grace and professionalism in a Schiaparelli tweed skirt suit.

The Oscar winner instantly caught my attention when she stepped onto the red (or cream) carpet at The Music Center for the photo op. I was enthralled with how the sand-colored attire complemented her fair complexion and enhanced her natural beauty.

The Everything Everywhere All at Once actress‘s Schiaparelli outfit includes a jacket made in sand-colored pressed tweed. I find the asymmetrical neckline fascinating, with a high collar on the right and a notched lapel collar on the left.

The blazer top is adorned with the Italian label’s signature Measuring Tape embroidery in gold beads, adding a fun twist to the traditional two-piece office attire.

Not only that, but it also has an ear-shaped button on the center front and hammered gold brass bijoux buttons with different themes on the lower sleeves. The matching sand tweed miniskirt has a frayed hem and the same whimsical bijoux buttons.

The ensemble’s golden embellishments, which wonderfully capture Schiaparelli’s unique and creative style, match well with the event’s “A Gold New World” theme.

Creating Cohesiveness with Gold Jewelry

I love how Michelle accessorized her pale dress with gold accessories to create a unified look that exudes sophistication and elegance.

She wore long, wing-like hammered gold earrings with crystal accents, a cocktail ring, and a diamond band. However, her black Richard Mille watch is one thing about this ensemble that throws me off. It’s not that I don’t like Richard Mille watches; it’s just that Yeoh’s black watch doesn’t go well with her ensemble.

Maintaining cohesiveness, she carried her essentials in a mini nude “Mini Anatomy” face bag, also by Schiaparelli. Crafted from nude calf leather, this quirky bag is decorated with the brand’s signature anatomical jewels and hammered gold brass, forming a trompe l’oeil face that alludes to Elsa Schiaparelli’s obsession with surrealism.

It features Schiaparelli’s iconic Shocking Pink lining, two top leather handles, and a gilded metal jewel shoulder strap.

Height-Boosting Platform Pumps

I adore how she contrasted the cream-and-gold combination with black pumps, as pairing the set with gold heels would have been predictable.

Michelle wore black suede Sergio Rossi heels with crystal-encrusted gold ribbon on the vamps. Peep-toes and towering heels completed the shoe design.

The only thing that concerns me is how squished Yeoh’s toes appear in those shoes. They look too narrow and tight that her big toes are curled. Walking in these shoes for hours must have been excruciating for Yeoh.

Nevertheless, she looked amazing. I adore how her brown hair fell over one shoulder in exquisite waves. She only used light pink lipstick and a dab of blush and mascara to enhance her inherent beauty.

Michelle Yeoh’s Crumpled Aluminum Met Gala Gown

Before the Gold Gala, the 61-year-old actress raised some eyebrows at the Met Gala for wearing what appeared to be a gown made from crumpled aluminum foil.

While she was made fun of, the dress was designed to look like tin foil. Speaking about the gown to People, Michelle revealed that it was influenced by the early years of Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia.

“Well, this dress is inspiration from Demna. Actually, he said it was something he did when he was a young child, playing with tin foil and making dresses on his sister’s toys,” adding that being at the Met Gala had “reawakened” Demna’s “childhood memories.”

She clarified that the gown was not made of tin foil. “No, it’s not. But the fabric feels like it is. You can mold it. You press it and it feels like it’s frozen in time.”

I wasn’t surprised that she was wearing a gown from the luxury Spanish fashion house, given that she was recently appointed ambassador in November 2023.

Nothing negative can be said of Yeoh’s beauty. She looked stunning with her wet look, side-parted tresses, and metallic makeup that complemented her dress.

To add some nature-inspired elements to the look, she accessorized with a green Richard Mille watch, emerald waterfall earrings, and a diamond and emerald ring by Cindy Chao.
