The stars of Kinds of Kindness are out in full force at the 77th Annual Cannes Film Festival to promote their black comedy anthology film directed by Poor Things’ Yorgos Lanthimos.
At the photocall on Saturday, Emma Stone, Hunter Schafer, and Margaret Qualley all looked stunning in matching black-and-white dresses—each with a distinct flair—perfect for the French Riviera setting.

Kinds of Kindness: A Triptych Fable
Kinds of Kindness tells three distinct but somewhat related stories, separated into three segments: “The Death of R.M.F.,” the first segment, centers on a man who tries to take control of his own life after severing ties with his influential boss; “R.M.F. is Flying,” the second segment, follows a man who becomes suspicious that his wife is an imposter after being reported missing at sea; lastly, “R.M.F. Eats a Sandwich,” the third segment, follows a cultist entrusted with finding a certain individual with a unique ability who will become a spiritual leader.
The initials R.M.F. is a mysterious character portrayed by Yorgos Stefanakos, who appears at the start of each chapter. The same actors appear in all three episodes, each portraying a distinct part in each narrative.
Kinds of Kindness is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on June 21.

Emma Stone: Safe But Borderline Boring
I don’t hate Louis Vuitton or Emma Stone, but lately, she’s been playing it safe, and her white silk wool Louis Vuitton mini dress for the Kinds of Kindness photocall doesn’t appeal to me.
If I’m being honest, I find it boring; it’s like throwing on whatever she has in her wardrobe. But to be fair, I like the look from the waist up. It has structural lapels creating the daring V-neckline that plunges below her sternum, almost reaching her navel. A rather basic-looking skirt cut mid-thigh makes up the lower portion of the dress.
The long black belt was a brilliant addition, tightening her waist and accentuating her feminine figure. It dangled from her waist and gave the outfit some flair, but I wish she had opted for something more stylish—a corset belt, perhaps?
Emma’s outfit reminded me of that scene from Sex in the City where Carrie Bradshaw wore a belted, oversized white shirtdress. Despite being more casual than Emma’s shirtdress, Carrie’s had a certain charm. Considering Emma’s dress was a bespoke creation, they could have designed it to fit her style better.

The Cruella star‘s accessories were elegant but failed to save the look.
Petra Flannery styled Emma with De Beers jewelry, including a statement ring, diamond stud earrings, and black patent Louis Vuitton sandals. The sandals feature peep-toes and slender V-shaped straps that gracefully encircle the foot, forming a stylish slingback strap.
The entire ensemble was lacking, in my opinion, but fortunately, Emma Stone never fails in the beauty department. She pulled her red hair back in a ponytail and enhanced her lovely features with pink blush and coral pink lipstick.

Hunter Schafer: Channeling Dutch Milk Maid Fashion
She’s always been bold when it comes to the red carpet. And over the weekend, Hunter Schafer lent the Cannes red carpet her signature fun yet daring flair, showing up at the photocall for Kinds of Kindness in a milkmaid-inspired look.
Schafer’s clothing immediately drew my attention; it undoubtedly brought something new to the Cannes Film Festival. However, while I assumed she was going for the milkmaid cottage core aesthetic in her custom Prada ensemble, her stylist, Dara Allen, clarified that it was a bathing costume!
Yes, a swimsuit with an apron skirt coverup inspired by the Italian luxury fashion house’s Fall 2010 collection. That surprised me because it had more of a 19th-century milkmaid appearance.

Looking closely, you’d notice that the Euphoria actress was indeed wearing a swimsuit, all set for the French Riviera beaches. It featured a structured ruffled lace bust, exposed seams, and a full bottom coverage layered underneath an apron-like skirt with a tiered ruffled hem and a tie at the waist. It also had a daring slit showcasing her flawless leg and the bottom of her one-piece swimsuit.
In addition to the apron skirt, the white bandana she tied around her head, covering her updo, enhanced the ensemble’s overall milkmaid vibe.
Not everyone can pull off a milkmaid look this stylish, but Schafer did a fantastic job with it, given her natural charisma and signature playful and bold attitude on the red carpet.

Lending a pop of color to Schafer’s outfit, Dara Allen added a chic and feminine pair of Prada pumps. They are specifically fashioned from blue satin, giving them a shiny sheen, and are finished with sophisticated elements, including elongated pointed toes and 3-inch tapered heels.
The trans actor highlighted her blue eyes with mascara and eyeliner and enhanced her features with barely there soft pink blush and lipstick with the help of makeup artist Charlotte Prevel.
At one point during the photocall, she wore white-framed Prada Swing sunglasses, which added a superstar element to the milkmaid look.

Margaret Qualley: 1980s Summer French Chic
Looking set for summer, Margaret Qualley had one of the best looks on the French Riviera over the weekend.
She channeled an ’80s French chic look, pairing a black Chanel Fall 2024 maxi dress with a wide hat from the same collection.
I must admit the hat was the main reason I noticed her. As you know, I’m a sucker for headpieces, and Margaret’s hat has an exquisite and vintage vibe that I adore. I like the crumpled look of the hat decorated with a crystal-encrusted brooch.
Given how straightforward it seems, some of you may find her dress overly basic and boring, but I think it’s the perfect summertime ensemble for a trip to the French Riviera. It’s cut from silk satin and features a plunging V-neck with thick shoulder straps, a V-shaped basque waist, and a softly pleated, flowy skirt that falls to her ankles.

Qualley wore her pixie raven tresses in curls, highlighting her beautiful features with mascara and bright red lipstick.
I thought her accessories were quite lacking, though. She opted to forgo the necklace and earrings and instead wore two Chanel High Jewelry bracelets. It would have been lovely to add a dainty necklace.
Of course, Chanel shoes in two-toned light gray and black completed her ensemble. These Mary Jane pumps have a thin buckled strap across the vamp, a black cap toe, and a short block heel.

Kinds of Kindness Cannes Premiere
The Kinds of Kindness cast and crew, including director Yorgos Lanthimos, graced their latest project’s Cannes Film Festival premiere the day before.
Emma Stone, Hunter Schafer, and Margaret Qualley attended the occasion in designer gowns.

As expected, Emma Stone donned another custom Louis Vuitton gown embroidered with burgundy sequins. The color contrasted nicely with her skin tone, but the daring plunging neckline and the flowing tiered skirt with a dramatic train made the outfit stand out.
She kept the rest of the look understated, wearing just a Louis Vuitton Volcano bracelet and a pair of custom rose gold sandals by the French fashion house.

Hunter Schafer looked elegant in her custom periwinkle blue Armani Prive strapless gown, which was a rendition of the fashion house’s Spring 2011 design.
It may appear basic, but I admire how the metallic silk organza fabric envelops her body like liquid metal. It has a foldover neckline, a ruched waist that resembles a bubble, and a column skirt. She wore a pair of metallic blue pumps, creating a seamless finish.
Hunter looked stunning in an elegant updo highlighting her Chopard sapphire necklace and earrings.

Margaret Qualley’s look, on the other hand, didn’t appeal to me. She donned another Chanel Spring 2024 creation, a pink gown that looked too girly and youthful for her age.
It’s a silk tulle dress with a ruched pleated bodice and a tulle skirt adorned with feathers, ribbons, and bows in pastel rainbow hues.
The starry headband and drop earrings were likewise too much for my taste.
