Us Weekly released an article a few days ago covering the fashionable Olsen twins – Mary Kate and Ashley. This time, however, the spotlight was not on the duo but their high-end fashion line, The Row, which came out with an alligator skin backpack retailing at a whopping $39,000!!!
Yes, you read that right, a backpack. And yes, you read that one correctly, too; it is priced at a hefty $39,000. But the fact that it is priced that much is not what the fuss is about. It’s that the bag sold out!
I find this a little hard to believe, but it is all over the celebrity news, so it must be true. In case you’re wondering what that $39,000 backpack looks like, here it is (drumroll please):
Crafted in Italy using traditional techniques and specially sourced materials, The Row’s black alligator backpack is a key style from the label’s sought-after accessories collection
This luxurious alligator skin bag, priced at a steep $39,000, raises the question: does its exotic material and high-end craftsmanship justify its hefty price tag?
Doesn’t it make you wonder how they got to that amount? If you had all the money in the world, would you buy it? The price tag makes it quite sinful.
Transcend the seasons and carry it year-round with the canvas straps or short top handle, keeping the rest of your look pared-back to keep the focus on this covetable carryall
I guess The Row only made a few pieces of the bag, probably less than 10. That is most likely how they could command such a price – a marketing tactic that seems to have worked.
As for the people who bought, let’s say they probably consider the item a collectible – one meant to be displayed rather than used.

It’s either that, OR this news is just all hype to put The Row on the fashion map and to make those celebrities, socialites, and fashionistas want a piece of that backpack.
There is also a classic calfskin version available. It retails for much less than the former (though still quite high):
