Priyanka Chopra Finds Love Again in Star-Studded Rom-Com With Sam Heughan and Celine Dion

Priyank Chopra is starring in a new rom-com alongside Sam Heughan and Celine Dion.

The James Strouse-directed movie Love Again is an English-language adaptation of the 2016 German movie SMS für Dich, which translates to SMS for You, based on a novel by Sofie Cramer.

Introduction to ‘Love Again’: A Star-Studded Romantic Comedy

Love Again follows illustrator Mira Ray (played by Priyanka Chopra) who, after losing her fiancé in a car accident, finds solace in sending romantic text messages to his old cellphone number, unaware that it was reassigned to journalist Rob Burns (played by Sam Heughan).

Rob is intrigued by the romantic messages he has been receiving. When he’s tasked with writing a feature about legendary singer Celine Dion, who portrays herself in the film, Burns seeks her help finding Mira in real life.

Nick Jonas’ Cameo: A Sweet Behind-the-Scenes Story

Two years after the death of her fiancé, Priyanka’s character Mira Ray tries her hand at online dating, where she meets a vain fitness trainer named Joel, played by Priyanka Chopra’s real-life husband Nick Jonas.

The date is a disaster, but Mira continues to hook up with him. While in a taxi, Mira tells Joel to take things slow, but he begins to lick her face, leaving her in disgust.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Priyanka revealed how Nick Jonas landed the role.

“They were going to cast a random actor who would’ve eventually had to lick my face during COVID, which meant that he had to quarantine for 14 days and sit in a hotel room just waiting to lick my face. It was just awful.”

“I was very excited about the fact that Nick agreed to do this because the scene was written as you saw it.”

The Baywatch star added that Nick was with her in London to help her “settle in” when she was filming Citadel and Love Again in 2020.

“Nick came to help me settle in, and our director Jim [Strouse] had the bright idea. He was like, ‘Do you think Nick would consider this?’ And I was like, ‘Yes. Yes, please!’ So Nick took one for the team and was extremely gracious and lovely,” she explained.

“He turned out to be so funny. It was so hard for me to act like I was embarrassed or mad at him because I just couldn’t stop laughing.”

Priyanka’s ever-supportive husband, Nick Jonas, was also with her at the premiere of her latest movie, Love Again, held at AMC Lincoln Square in New York City last week.

Meanwhile, his 40-year-old actress wife looked every inch the leading lady as she showed up in an extravagant gown from Italian-born French fashion designer Nina Ricci’s Fall 2023 collection.

Cut from French-bleached denim, the breathtaking strapless dress featured a flattering mermaid silhouette that effortlessly accentuated her hourglass curves.

It was constructed with a draped, off-the-shoulder neckline, providing space for her $51,000 Bulgari Serpenti Viper necklace in 18kt rose gold with demi pave diamonds.

A huge bow attached to the back flowed into a long, dramatic train, while a hip-hugging skirt flared into an enormous fishtail hem.

Harris Reed, the creative director of the Fresh fashion brand, created the dreamy gown, especially for Priyanka Chopra, who further accessorized the ensemble with $9,450 Bulgari Serpenti Viper earrings with the help of her stylist Rebecca Corbin Murray.

Keeping the rest of the look elegant, Priyanka opted for soft glam, with bronze eyeshadow, full eyelashes, and glossy lipstick created by Yumi Mori. Hairstylist Danielle Priano styled her hair sleek and straight with a deep side part.

Gushing about Chopra’s premiere look, Reed shared in an Instagram post that he’s “Beyond incredibly honoured to have been able to custom fit my @ninaricci Runway denim couture gown on the one and only icon @priyankachopra in new york this week for the premiere of her new film Love Again.”

“I could not imagine a more perfect woman to wear this gown. Fun fact- the entire construction, corset, bustier, skirt and bow are all crafted out of French bleached denim and all of my ‘couture’ denim pieces were the global top sellers in this past collection for Nina. The joke is, when I got the job at Nina my bosses asked me how I would make denim my own… I hope I didn’t disappoint.”

Following the premiere of her new flick, Priyanka embarked on a promotional tour across New York City, where she was seen rocking a series of stylish designer outfits.

In her latest press tour look, the mom-of-one was pictured channeling Marilyn Monroe in a white matte crepe dress by Proenza Schouler, available on Farfetch for $1,190.

The Quantico star gave onlookers outside The View studios an eyeful of her cleavage in the halter-style summer dress similar to Monroe’s iconic white dress from the 1955 rom-com The Seven Year Itch.

The stunning pristine white number featured a deep plunging neckline, a sexy open-back design with a single twisted strap along the center, and a billowing flared skirt with an ankle-length straight hem.

Creating a seamless look, the former beauty queen slipped into a pair of white Piferi “Nadja” knee-high boots from the brand’s latest Spring/Summer 2023 collection.

They are expertly crafted in Italy from white embossed croc-effect faux leather and are set on the label’s iconic comma heels that added a few inches to Chopra’s 5’6” frame.

For her appearance on Good Morning America, the Indian beauty wore a baby pink satin midi dress from 3.1 Phillip Lim’s Fall 2023 collection.

The sleeveless number featured a ruched, wrap-effect bodice with a black bow accent and an asymmetric skirt with a black-trimmed thigh-high slit.

LMixed Reviews but Fan Adoration: The Reception of ‘Love Again’

Released on May 5 by Sony Pictures Releasing, Love Again received generally unfavorable reviews from critics.

Indie Wire’s David Ehrlich said, “Most of the laugh lines in Love Again are stale enough that even just hearing them kind of hurts your teeth, but for all of its blatant ridiculousness, this movie seldom tries to be funny.”

“There’s not much chemistry between Chopra Jonas and Heughan—and how could there be, since they’re stuck in a one-way conversation for half the movie? Plus, Mira’s texts are just so sad,” said Variety’s Peter Debruge.

On the other hand, audiences are gushing over the film, calling it the “best rom-com.”
