Martin Luther King Jr. may have left this world almost 50 years ago, but his beautiful legacy is still being passed on and celebrated today. In fact, his influence was so great during a time of oppression and violence that a Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated every year.
Michelle Williams was given the honor to speak on behalf of the late minister and activist on MLK day. The former Destiny’s Child member spoke words of encouragement at the Riverside Church in New York.

Michelle wore a form-fitting pair of leather pants and a black top, showing off a toned physique which she has maintained since her Destiny’s Child days. The singer casually contrasted her all-black look with a plaid blazer.
It was hard to miss the 36-year-old on stage as she towered over the podium in a pair of Christian Louboutin “Daf Booty” platform ankle boots in black suede.

Michelle attended the event on behalf of Blackout for Human Rights, which was a network of artists dedicated to ending human rights violations toward Americans.
In her speech, the singer quoted Audre Lorde’s words: “For it is not difference which immobilizes us, but silence. And there are so many silences to be broken.” Michelle then expressed her gratitude for the humbling opportunity to address the crowd at Riverside Church.
