Lupita Nyong’o provides the voice of Roz, the abandoned robot protagonist in the animated sci-fi survival movie The Wild Robot, now showing in cinemas. Rather than going for a futuristic, android-ish look, Lupita took her elegant, refined, and often innovative style to the movie’s premiere during the 72nd San Sebastian International Film Festival.
As much as I appreciate method dressing, I don’t think this situation calls for it. It’s an esteemed film festival; of course, Lupita must dress to impress!
While almost every fashion enthusiast is in London, Milan, and Paris for fashion week, Lupita is busy turning heads in Spain with her equally fashion week-worthy wardrobe choices from Dolce & Gabbana and PH5. Of course, her looks wouldn’t be possible without the help of her stylist Micaela Erlanger, whose high-profile clientele includes Meryl Streep and Kelly Clarkson.

Romantic in Red Lace Dolce & Gabbana Dress and Black Heels
Embracing her bold yet sophisticated sense of style, the first black Jury President of the Berlin International Film Festival looks impressive in a red sheer lace dress expertly tailored by Dolce & Gabbana. It fits her slender frame perfectly, and I adore how it complements her radiant complexion.
Its see-through sheer material and delicate flower lace embroidery radiate both romance and boldness. The figure-flattering corset bodice with exposed boning, see-through panels, and bra cups add a rebellious edge while maintaining a sensual appeal.
It’s held in place by double shoulder straps and finished with a flowing, softly pleated see-through skirt, adding to its allure! Not to mention, it exudes a Spanish flamenco mood, expressing love and passion in high fashion.

Nyong’o doesn’t often wear an outfit this daring. As far as I can recall, she has never worn a corset or very seldom has! But judging by this appearance and how she effortlessly carries it? I think she should wear more of them from now on.
This outfit looked flawless when paired with black slingback sandals! Although Lupita could have easily worn red heels to complete a monochromatic ensemble, her black sandals created a stylish contrast!
These leather shoes have straps across the toes, slingback straps, and stiletto heels that accentuate Nyong’o’s 5’5” height.

Although I don’t think this outfit requires any additional accent pieces, the Black Panther actress chose to add a red rose choker necklace to heighten the romantic vibe. Erlanger called the look the “Spanish Rose,” which makes perfect sense!
Nyong’o also wore the $3,600 De Beers DB Classic Round Brilliant Diamond Stud earrings for a hint of sparkle. These ethically sourced diamonds are cut into a classic round brilliant shape and aligned in a four-prong setting.
Her film festival essentials were kept in a small red Dolce & Gabbana Sicily Bag, made in Italy from polished calfskin with a logo tag in a metal plating finish.
I commend her glam squad for complementing her red lace dress to her beauty look. Inspired by Julia Andrews’ graceful, bright, and cheerful beauty, Nick Barose gave Lupita a gentle, charming makeup look with delicate rose petal red cheekbones and lips.
Vernon François, meanwhile, fashioned her black sister locs in a side-parted chignon to keep the look polished.

Refined yet Avant-Garde in PH5 Dress and Gianvito Rossi Pumps
I’m not surprised with Lupita Nyong’o’s outfit choice for The Wild Robot’s photocall during the 72nd San Sebastian International Film Festival at Kursaal Palace in Donostia San Sebastian, Spain.
The A Quiet Place: Day One actress opted for her go-to sophisticated, traditional slip-dress style with a contemporary floral airbrush design, striking the perfect balance between timeless sophistication and a dash of fun and innovation.
Erlanger selected Nyong’o’s outfit from PH5, an innovative, sustainable brand based in China and the US that is well-known for its knitwear and whimsical creations.

For its pre-fall collection, PH5 explores creating a new species of plants that can only exist digitally. These plants were sketched and knitted into jacquard designs in unnatural colorways, as seen in Lupita’s tank dress.
I adore the color combination, which looks amazing on Lupita’s complexion, and the surprise digitally coded artificial gold flower print at the bottom!
It’s a $455 trompe-l’oeil dress called the “Jasmine,” with contrasting white airbrushing down the sides, creating an hourglass shape illusion. But what truly makes the outfit outstanding, in my opinion, is how well it fits her. It looks so tight that you can already see her abs!
It also has a plunging asymmetrical V-neckline that draws attention to her decolletage and is held in place by slim spaghetti straps. The side slit enhances its allure, allowing Lupita to showcase her toned pins.

Style-wise, I love how everything appears to match every element flawlessly. Star Wars: The Force Awakens star carried a yellow version of the Carolina Herrera “Tiny Doma Insignia” satchel mini bag. She shielded her eyes behind the $540 Silhouette “Cap d’Ail” oversized sunglasses with a purple lens and a rose bronze frame.
Lupita styled her sister locs in a high bun, highlighting her $3,400 De Beers “Enchanted Lotus” earrings in 18k rose gold, featuring a central diamond surrounded by micropavé diamonds.
Her outfit was completed with white Gianvito Rossi ”Plexi” shoes that went well with her dress. These leather pumps, the signature design of the Italian luxury shoe brand, have soft, see-through plexi side panels.

The Wild Robot: Overcoming Parenting Difficulties Sans Any Programming
The Wild Robot, produced by DreamWorks Animation, is based on Peter Brown’s book series of the same name. It centers on ROZZUM unit 7134, aka Roz, a robot who learns to adapt to her new harsh surroundings after being washed onto a forest island.
She uses her processing skills to interact with animals and eventually becomes the adoptive mother of Brightbill, a young gosling.
“I think what makes ‘The Wild Robot’ a compelling story is that we’re witnessing this robot adapt to the natural world,” she said in an interview with NBC News. “And we’re witnessing the natural world adapt to a robot.”
Lupita Nyong’o’s First Voice Role
Lupita Nyong’o is making her voice acting debut in the animated film, The Wild Robot. Embracing the robotic role, she mentioned damaging her vocal cords and developing a polyp.
“It’s quite vocally athletic to do that programmed, optimistic voice,” Nyong’o said. She revealed she “had to be silent for three months in order to… evade surgery.”
The movie’s director, Chris Sanders, praised Lupita for her vocal agility.
“People think standing in front of a microphone is relatively easy, but it isn’t,” he said. “If you’re on a movie set, you’re doing a scene a day. You’re in a certain place emotionally, and you stay there.”
“In one of these recording sessions, we might cover 15 sequences or more. The range of emotion is all over the place.”
