Last month, it was announced that the original cast of Lizzie McGuire is reuniting for the Disney+ reboot series that will be entering production for Disney+, a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) streaming service.
Over the summer, Hilary Duff revealed that she will be reprising her role as the title character Lizzie in the new series. Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, and Jake Thomas are coming back as Jo, Sam and Matt McGuire, respectively.

“We are incredibly excited to bring back one of the most popular Disney Channel series of all time along with some beloved and familiar faces,” said Ricky Strauss, president, Content & Marketing, Disney+. “With Terri at the helm and Hilary, Hallie, Robert, and Jake back after all these years, it’s our honor to welcome the McGuire family into the Disney+ family.”
Production on the sequel series began on October 29, 2019, on location in Washington Square Park in New York. When Duff shared a photo on Instagram of herself on the set of the Lizzie McGuire reboot, her fiancé Matthew Koma commented on it, saying: “Ugh I can’t wait to role play.”

The show’s creator, American television writer Terri Minsky, is also returning for the reboot. The series will follow Lizzie, now in her thirties and living in New York working an assistant to a fancy New York City decorator. In an August 2019 interview with E! News, Duff recognized how important the original show was to an entire generation of millennials.
[Lizzie McGuire] was there for everyone in their pre-teens. She was their best friend, and I would love to try to embody that for her in her 30’s and going through those challenges.

The same month, she also told People Magazine that Lizzie now is navigating the ups and downs of adulthood similar to how she was a struggling adolescent back in the days.
“She hasn’t totally found her way and I think that’s part of her journey,” Duff said. “I just thought that there was an opportunity there for her to be grown up and for her to be there for women again.”
“I’m not gonna lie: I’m a little intimidated,” she added. “I’m like, ‘Where is she in there?’ She is in there; she is me. When I was 13, it was such a big part of me … I just have to tap into that and be very authentic to that.”
“Our lives are very different — she’s not a mother, I am already a mother — but I think that’s what’s exciting, to step into someone else’s world whose a little bit different than your own, but I can’t wait,” Duff explained.
In August 2015, the former “Lizzie McGuire” star showed that she is a Swiftie when arriving at Staples Center in Los Angeles to watch Taylor Swift perform onstage for her “1989” world tour.

The then 27-year-old actress and singer opted for a laidback-chic look. She wore a loose black V-neck top paired with white ripped skinny jeans.
She relied on accessories to amp up her monochrome number. Hilary spiced up her outfit with few bangles, a chunky wristwatch and a large hoop earrings.
The actress wore a black wide-brimmed hat and a pair of pointy ankle boots to add just a hint of Western vibes to her look.
