One of Lea Michele’s notable performances was her role as Gertie on the acclaimed FX original series, “Sons of Anarchy.”
In this series, she plays a compassionate waitress who listens to Gemma Teller Morrow (Katey Sagal) as she shares how her son, Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), lost his wife, Tara Knowles (Maggie Siff).
Michele’s impactful presence was felt in the episode “Smoke ’em if You Got ’em,” featured in the series’ final season. The sixth episode of the seventh season aired on October 14, 2014, when Lea Michele was 28 years old.

In an interview with Vulture, Lea Michele expressed delight over her guest role on Sons of Anarchy, where she played Gertie, a truck-stop waitress. According to her, the character was envisioned to reflect a younger Gemma (played by Katey Sagal).
She found the opportunity to portray a character drastically different from her usual ones exciting. Michele admired Sagal’s portrayal of Gemma and found shooting with her an amazing experience.
I know they wanted this character of Gertie to mirror a young Gemma. Katey and Kurt had me in mind for it, and I’m such a huge fan of the show — as he knows. I’m so glad that it all worked out. I found out when I was on vacation in Italy, and I was literally more excited about being on Sons of Anarchy than being on a gorgeous vacation.
“Amazing,” Lea said about shooting the scene with Katey Sagal, who guest starred on Glee as Nancy Abrams in 2013.
“She’s also been on Glee, so it was fun to get to do her show. But I had to keep reminding myself that she wasn’t her character. I’m literally so terrified of Gemma. I couldn’t believe I was sitting next to her. I was like, Lea, remember, you’re on a TV show, too.”

“The character is so iconic. She’s a really fucking scary character, but Katey is so wonderful, and she made me feel so welcome and a part of the cast. Coming into a show that’s been running for such a long time, people have their processes and routines — and we’re like that at Glee — so it was really nice that she made me feel so comfortable there.”
