Kirsten Dunst attended the Los Angeles premiere of her latest dystopian action film, Civil War, before its April 12 release in US theaters. She exuded understated elegance in a black Rodarte dress, far different from the coquette-style mint green dress she wore to the film’s London screening last week.
Her previous dress also had a subtle elegance, but I wasn’t particularly fond of the silhouette or the styling.
I’m glad she gave the sleek, contemporary aesthetic another shot with this Rodarte creation. It reminds me of her white Gucci dress at the Oscars, and I hope she sticks with this look as it suits her so well compared to her typical printed, dated red carpet outfit choices.

Detailed Look at Dunst’s Premiere Dress
My jaw dropped when the Spider-Man star showed up at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures wearing a sleeveless black dress. Although some of you might find it dull, I adore the little elements that add to its elegant appearance.
Upon closer look, the dress is, in fact, more intricate than it seems because of the varying textures.
The sleeveless halter bodice from Rodarte’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection is cut from black velvet with tulle lace trims, adding drama and romantic, feminine flair to the design. The lower part, on the other hand, is a lightweight satin charmeuse skirt that falls from the V-shaped waist down to her ankles.

Wishing for Lookbook Styling
While I appreciate the dress, I wish Kirsten had adopted the lookbook’s styling, particularly the black sheer gloves with red and white butterfly appliques for a more romantic aesthetic. Adding an extra dash of mystery, the model accessorized with red shoes and a black sheer mask over her eyes.
I don’t mind how the 41-year-old actress styled her outfit, considering her love of minimalist, timeless designs. Stylist Samantha McMillen, whose celebrity clientele includes Brie Larson, Ana de Armas, Kristin Davis, and siblings Dakota and Elle Fanning, put together her stunning evening outfit.
She kept her jewelry to a minimum, wearing only a few rings by Broken English Jewelry and a tiny set of diamond drop earrings by Neil Lane Couture.
Her sophisticated appearance was completed with black velvet Ferragamo peep-toe shoes dotted with tiny crystals. However, I wish she had opted for a simple pair of black sandals for a more classic finish.

Glam Team’s Touch on Dunst’s Look
Kirsten Dunst’s glam team, Pati Dubroff and Bryce Scarlett, gave her a timeless beauty look. Dubroff used rosy eyeshadow and mascara to draw attention to Kirsten’s blue eyes. She applied a dab of rosy blush to her cheekbones and gave the all-black look a pop of color with bold red lipstick.
Scarlett, meanwhile, slicked her blonde tresses to the side and pulled them into a tidy bun.

Jesse Plemons Supports Dunst at Premiere
Kirsten Dunst was accompanied by her husband, Jesse Plemons, whom she wed in 2022.
Plemons, who reportedly made a cameo appearance in Civil War, was dapper in a single-breasted gray tweed suit with a white shirt underneath and black dress shoes.

Dunst’s Appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Kirsten Dunst was spotted on her way to Jimmy Kimmel Live! studios the next day to talk about her upcoming film, Civil War.
She was pictured wrapped up in an oversized gray coat, which she later removed to reveal her black Lanvin dress. Another sleek and modern design, the black viscose jersey dress features a low-cut V-neckline and a pleated midi skirt with a raw edge at the hem.
What I find interesting about the look is the lime green sculptural hardware affixed to one shoulder. It creates a ruched accent, and I like how it provides the otherwise simple midi dress with a contemporary allure.

Accessorizing the Lanvin Dress
I think it was wise to accessorize the ensemble with green earrings to complement the eye-catching design of her dress.
She packed her day’s necessities in the soft black Celine “Polly” bag, with a front flap adorned with the gold-tone triomphe of the French luxury fashion brand.
Her head-to-toe black outfit was completed with Giuseppe Zanotti’s “Hanna” mule sandals, which had a black silk bow accent, open toes, and 4-inch heels.
This, for me, perfected Dunst’s look. Brie Larson also wore these shoes in 2019 after her interview on Good Morning America.
