While Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton have different style preferences, both Oscar-winning actors wore edgy silhouettes that reflected their taste in fashion at the Madrid photocall for their upcoming Spanish drama film, The Room Next Door.

The Room Next Door: A Story of Life, Death, and Friendship
The Room Next Door, the first-ever Spanish film to be awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival in September, follows the friendship between Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton). They were close friends when they were younger, but life’s circumstances kept them apart; Martha became a war reporter, and Ingrid an autofictional novelist.
Following years of separation, “they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.” Martha is seen in the hospital battling cancer, with Ingrid seen by her side. She asks Ingrid to be with her in the room next door when she ends her life.
As per the synopsis, “the film addresses the endless cruelty of war, the very different ways in which the two female authors approach and write about reality, death, friendship, and sexual pleasure as the best allies in the fight against horror. And it also evokes the sweet awakening with the chirping of birds, in a house built in the middle of a nature reserve in New England, where the two friends live in an extreme and strangely sweet situation.”

Pedro Almodóvar directed The Room Next Door, which is based on the novel What Are You Going Through by Sigrid Nunez. It will have a limited theatrical release in the US on December 20, 2024.
Tilda Swinton in Burgundy Chanel Skirt Suit and Manolo Blahnik Mule Pumps
Bringing her signature modern edge to the occasion, Tilda Swinton, 63, chose a Chanel ensemble that reflected her maximalist, androgynous style.
I don’t adore the outfit’s burgundy color, but this wasn’t an unexpected choice, given Swinton’s penchant for striking hues. I love how she leaned on playful sophistication, teaming a matching Chanel Fall 2024 Haute Couture tweed shirt with a knee-length tweed skirt patterned with pearl and gold-tone embroideries.
I didn’t think the cropped bolero jacket was necessary, though I have to say it gave the ensemble more depth and visual richness.

As expected, Tilda eschewed the jewelry department in favor of letting the already striking ensemble steal the show.
The Three Thousand Years of Longing actress instead donned an interesting pair of Manolo Blahnik mules, which I assume were named after her. The $1,075 “Tilda” mules are made in Italy from satin and distinguished by the multicolored crystal and pearl laurel wreath on the vamps.
They are finished with pointed toes and 4-inch stiletto heels, further boosting Swinton’s 5’10” height.

Julianne Moore in Attersee Ensemble and Black Mule Pumps
On the other hand, Julianne Moore brought her signature minimalist look to the event, donning an all-black ensemble that mirrored her understated and sophisticated style.
Although I wasn’t shocked to see her wearing black, I was taken aback by the ensemble’s more unusual style, which she got from the relatively new fashion label Attersee.
It was founded in 2021 by New York native Isabel Wilkinson Schor to produce sophisticated yet easy-to-wear designs. The brand is now renowned for its classic, refined silhouettes and comfortable.
The Evolution star wore the “Cecily” jacket, a long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder, somewhat structured tunic-style jacket made of wool-silk with interior boning and a front placket. She teamed it with the matching wool-silk cigarette pants, made to sit on the natural waist, with a tapered leg that falls above the ankle.

I’m not a fan of this look; I don’t think it’s flattering. However, adding the black mule booties gave the ensemble a touch of modern edge.
They’re like booties with an open back, pointed toes, and thick heels. Julianne maintained a subtle glam look with her hair fashioned in natural waves and her delicate pink makeup.
In keeping with Moore’s signature understated style, she added a few gold rings, a gold necklace, and small gold hoop earrings to lend some glitter to the monochromatic black ensemble.
