I find it fascinating every time Joey King walks the red carpet, as she never fails to bring something new and unexpected to the table. This was evident when she showed up at the Despicable Me 4 New York City premiere wearing a futuristic Sportmax dress with an interesting plastic overlay.

These days, Joey King has been putting together stylish ensembles one after another. She epitomized Old Hollywood glamor in a yellow Miu Miu dress and channeled her inner ice princess in a blue Cong Tri gown only two weeks ago at the Cannes Film Festival. The other day, she looked effortlessly Parisian in a Chanel skirt and coat.

At the Despicable Me 4 premiere ahead of the movie’s July 3 release, King once again proved how unstoppable she is by delivering another fabulous look.

Fashion Forward in Green Sportmax Midi Dress with Plastic Overlay

In the upcoming Despicable Me movie, the sixth installment in the Despicable Me franchise, King will voice Poppy Prescott, an aspiring supervillain who has long adored Gru. She’s often seen in pink-and-white outfits with fingerless gloves and pink sneakers.

At the animated film’s NYC screening, the Bullet Train star wore a futuristic green dress, obviously ditching method dressing. However, King revealed to US Weekly that a “scary pediatrician” inspired her red-carpet ensemble.

It didn’t make sense to me at first since the dress’s structured look screamed fashion forward. When you look at it, though, the green hue does resemble hospital scrubs.

The White House Down actress looks chic, but that’s not surprising. Her longtime stylist, Jared Eng, knows what suits her, and this green Sportmax dress is no exception.

It’s whimsical but elegant, and I love how its structured corset-style bodice highlights King’s toned frame, bringing a vintage charm to the dress’s futuristic vibe. It also has padded shoulders and appears see-through, but the glossy silk satin with PVC overlay detracts from the translucent appearance.

The dress’s lower portion is a column skirt cut from matching lustrous, mint-green silk that stops a few inches above her ankles. A transparent plastic overlay extends past the green skirt, adding a striking visual appeal.

It hails from Sportmax’s Spring/Summer 2024 “A Gardener’s Ballad” collection, which “reflects on the nature of change.” It includes futuristic structured pieces that “evoke a future suspended between natural and artificial, science and art.”

Matching Futuristic Accessories

Joey King and Jared Eng didn’t stop at the dress; they complemented the fashion-forward midi dress with space-age jewelry.

Joey wore the Sunnei “Sunnei Clessidra” earring made in Italy from green glass, which went well with her dress. They are currently on sale for $103.53 (from $156.30) at Cettire.

The Kissing Booth star wore several silver rings on her hands, including a Hirotaka two-finger silver ring and the Milko Boyarov Worm Chain ring, hand-made in Portugal from 925 recycled silver.

PVC heels are the perfect finishing touch for the futuristic outfit, and Joey King opted for the popular Gianvito Rossi Plexi pumps.

They are tipped with white patent leather point toes fused with transparent PVC side inserts. The 4-inch stiletto heels enhanced Joey King’s 5’4” height.

At Mytheresa, you can get these leather and PVC pumps for 30% less, from $815 to $570.

Joey’s own pack of Minions, however, was her best accessory. At the premiere, King brought ten French Bulldogs, all decked out like Minion characters!

Icy Glam with Sultry Hairstyle

Danielle Priano styled Joey King’s blonde tresses in wet-look waves, tucking one side behind her ear and the other flowing over her left shoulder.

Allan Avendaño, meanwhile, complemented the ensemble with icy glam. He highlighted her light blue eyes with icy blue eyeshadow and fluttery lashes, then applied glitter to the inner corners. Her beauty was enhanced with creamy pink lipstick and peach blush.

Rounding out her glam were her mint-green French tips, created by nail artist Elle Gerstein.
