This year’s Academy Awards, held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, featured a full spectrum of colorful designer gowns on the red carpet. Standing out for their bold and dark hues were an assortment of jewel-toned gowns, which drew major attention to the stars who wore them.
While some of these deep color schemes were lovely and flattering, a couple had us scratching our heads. We gathered up six ladies in gemstone tones from the red carpet and couldn’t help but wonder if their stylists conspired to create these similar-looking Oscars ensembles.

Reese Witherspoon’s silk Oscar de la Renta gown, with its topstitch detail and exposed black bustier, had a bold look, though the bright purple taffeta felt a bit over the top. The “Hot Pursuit” star completed her outfit with Jimmy Choo platform sandals (hidden under the gown), a Judith Leiber clutch, and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

Tina Fey opted for an elegant Atelier Versace gown, similar in style to Reese’s but without the flashy taffeta. Her body-hugging silhouette and floor-trailing tulle skirt exuded poise and simplicity in a bold purple hue. While it was a safe and polished choice for the 45-year-old, we would have liked to see her take a bit more of a fashion risk. Tina completed her look with Roger Vivier shoes and bag, along with Bvlgari diamond and sapphire jewelry.
Both Reese and Tina served as presenters that evening, and with their nearly identical purple gowns, they were almost indistinguishable on the red carpet except for their different hair colors.

Naomi, you’re a gem truly suited for these gemstone colors. Sofia, while we love the color, it does feel a bit too much like prom attire. Both actresses went for youthful looks, but Naomi’s style stands out. Her strapless Armani Privé gown, adorned with shimmering waves of navy and purple sequins, exudes a mermaid-like elegance.
While it might lean on the youthful side, the 47-year-old pulls it off with class, making this gown a refined take on every little girl’s dream dress.
