Forget everything you learned about not wearing double denim. Double denim is an outfit you can confidently pull off. However, pairing two denim pieces in one ensemble can be tricky.
For some stylish inspiration, we looked to Jessica Alba’s recent New York outing to gather some double denim ground rules.

1. Combine Different Denim Shades
First, the 33-year-old mixed two shades of denim. Her ripped boyfriend jeans have a lighter tone, while her button-down shirt is several shades darker. If you wear denim with another denim, make sure they are closely similar in color.
Try not to pair dark, acid-washed denim with a blue denim top. That’s bound to be a disaster. So, if you are wearing dark denim pants, a similar black or grey denim top would work. In the same way, blue denim will work best with another shade of blue.

2. Consider the Texture of Your Denim
Jeans are typically stiffer and rougher. Choose a denim top with a softer texture to ensure it drapes well over your body and avoids a stiff and overpowering look.

3. Opt for Minimalist Accessories
The denim look already has a strong vibe. Opt for solid-colored shoes, like the actress’s white pumps. Keep your jewelry simple and understated.
Also, we weren’t expecting the fashion icon/business mogul to wear a leather backpack with it. We’re eyeing her Reece Hudson Siren backpack, which features smooth leather with gunmetal-tone hardware.
