In 1995, the tragic loss of Latina singer Selena, who crooned the ’90s hit “I Could Fall in Love,” sparked international outrage that eventually opened the opportunity for Hollywood to tell the story of her death.
The film “Selena” highlighted the legend that she left behind in the hearts of many whom her music had touched, telling the tale of her journey as an artist from the time she was in a band with her siblings up to her untimely demise.
It also gave birth to one of the brightest Latina stars that we have today: Jennifer Lopez. Playing the part of Selena in the 1997 film, Jennifer Lopez magically brought the late singer back to life — and 18 years later, she did it again.

On normal days, we would think this is a bit too costume-like for the red carpet. Inasmuch as this worked on the runway, our verdict is that the usually infallible Jennifer Lopez didn’t quite pull the look off this time.
But since this was meant as a tribute to the fallen artist, we’ll let this one slide.
