Karen vividly remembered the initial skepticism they encountered, stating in a 2012 interview with Rolling Stone, “It might as well have been a different planet. Our friends thought we were nuts. We thought we were nuts. But [Jennifer’s] brothers told us, ‘This is her baseball diamond. You’ve gotta let her play.'”
She added, “We thought she’d go to New York, and they’d say, ‘Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.’ If it wasn’t for her agent literally almost choking me, saying, ‘You don’t understand, I’ve never seen a 14-year-old like this,’ we might not have made it.”
