How I Met Your Father, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, made its debut in January 2022. While it fell short of the original’s critical acclaim, Hulu gave its second season a green light just two months after its first season premiered.
The two-time Emmy-winning sitcom focuses on hopelessly romantic photographer Sophie, played by Hilary Duff in the present timeline and Kim Cattrall in the future.
“Sophie (Cattrall), in the year 2050, recounts to her unseen son the events that followed meeting his father in January 2022 and how they ultimately had him.”

A day before the season 2 premiere of How I Met Your Mother’s stand-alone sequel, Hilary Duff was spotted hitting the promotional trail in a series of chic looks.
On Monday morning, she dropped by Good Morning America, where she donned a monochromatic red outfit from A.W.A.K.E. MODE’s Resort 2023 collection.

Pulling out all the stops, the 35-year-old actress tucked a red long-sleeved blouse into a matching maxi skirt created using the label’s laser-cutting technique.
It formed rows of woven, rectangular panels, while the stretch-crepe de chine shirt, which you can get for $370 at Net-a-Porter, featured an exaggerated collar, contrast white stitching, front buttons, and slender ties at the back.
At one point outside the studio, Hilary was pictured bundled up in an animal-print coat.

Styling duo Brit and Kara Smith created Duff’s fashion moment, which was completed with a red Dolce & Gabbana “Cordonetto Lace Sicily” bag, chocolate brown Stuart Weitzman sandals, a gold Tiffany & Co. Elsa Peretti Bone cuff, and Jacquie Aiche drop earrings.
To enhance her appearance, makeup artist Rommy Najor created a smokey eye effect and applied mascara, while hairstylist David Cruz crafted tousled waves in her blonde hair.

Keeping herself busy, Hilary visited the set of Late Night with Seth Meyers that same day to talk about the second season of How I Met Your Father.
Arriving at the studio, the She Wants Me actress looked every bit the Hollywood movie star in a black coat worn over a black dress, finished with a pair of black pumps.

The Younger actress wrapped up warm in a black leather coat embellished with thick fur on the collar and cuffs and a waist-cinching leather belt.
Beneath her luxurious outerwear was a black crepe dress that had a seductive slit across the front. She appeared braless underneath the peekaboo dress, designed with an asymmetric neckline, a cape-like draping panel, and a fishtail hem.
From the Italian label The Attico, you can get your hands on this dress for $1,000 at Matches Fashion.

To complete her all-black winter look, Hilary boosted her short 5’1″ height with a pair of pointed-toe pumps with dainty ankle straps and about 3 to 4-inch heels.
With the help of her trusted glam team, Hilary looked radiant with a warm makeup palette, complete with mascara and red lipstick. She then had her blonde hair styled in soft waves cascading past her shoulders.

How I Met Your Father Season 2 Plot
The creators of How I Met Your Father are keeping their viewers in the dark as the plot for season two remains unknown. However, considering where the finale episode of season one left off, several plot points can be inferred.
The first season ended with some cliffhangers. Sophie (Hilary Duff) and Jesse (Chris Lowell) started dating, but their relationship was short-lived after Sophie witnessed Jesse kissing his ex, Meredith (Leighton Meester).
Valentina (Francia Raisa) and Charlie (Tom Ainsley) ended their relationship due to their opposing views on having children. Longtime couple Sid (Suraj Sharma) and Hannah (Ashley Reyes) eloped, Rachel (Aby James) gave Ellen (Tien Tran) a second chance, and at the end of the season finale, Sophie unexpectedly reunited with Ian (Daniel Augustin).

Speaking of their characters’ development, Hilary told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour: “We know these characters, we feel a little bit more comfortable. We just get more room to play and experience and find these little human bits in the roles. It feels easier to find and a little more secure this time around.”
Hilary’s co-star Tien Tran also discussed how they handle the complicated relationships on their show.
“It’s very easy to take a toxic path for some of these decisions that our characters make, but I love that our show oftentimes takes a healthier, more—almost like a mature [path]. And there’s so much humor in that, in sitting and talking with each other through these difficult moments.”
“I feel like sitcoms of yore would maybe take the easy, sort of toxic path and I love that there are healthy decisions and healthy conversations being made with our show. Because I think it’s a good model for how relationships should be approached in real life,” she added.

How I Met Your Father Season 2 Cast
The main cast, including Hilary Duff and Chris Lowell, are reprising their roles in the second season of How I Met Your Father.
There will also be some new casts and surprise guest appearances, such as Neil Patrick Harris, who made a cameo in the season 2 premiere as How I Met Your Mother’s Barney Stinson.
“We wanted to bring him back, and we wanted him to be true to his character and to the fans that loved Barney so much,” co-creator Elizabeth Berger told TV Line. “But we also wanted him to exist on our show, in our time, in a way that made sense, so all of that Zoom was spent talking about how we could blend all those things and service him and the show in the best way possible.”

Berger has also hinted that more cast members from the original How I Met Your Mother sitcom will appear in the spin-off series.
“We exist in the same universe as the original, and that means that, whether it’s another set, whether it’s a person from the original, these kinds of things can populate our world,” Berger told Radio Times. “And we think that we fulfill that notion in a really satisfying way, even in this season, and hope to continue to do so in future seasons.”
How Many Episodes Will How I Met Your Father 2 Have?
The second season of How I Met Your Father will have a total of 20 episodes as opposed to the first season’s 10 episodes.
“We did 10, which obviously is very normal in this model, but it also flies by,” Berger told TV Line in January 2022. “We did our 10 and went, ‘Oh my God, that was quick for multi-cam. We could have done a couple more,’ so I think we’ll take that into consideration.”
