When we think of Hailee Steinfeld, we don’t typically think “gothic.” In fact, we usually think “chic,” “feminine” or “sophisticated.” However, the singer and actress surprised us by taking a different approach to this year’s Met Gala honoring Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo.
Though Hailee’s look wasn’t as avant-garde as Kawakubo’s collections, her black micro shorts and long off-the-shoulder, military-inspired jacket did capture the designer’s signature style in a subtle way. The Vera Wang creation, straight from the runway of her Fall 2017 collection, was an ideal tribute to Rei’s aesthetic.

The “Starve” singer paired the gothic outfit with sky-high platform boots, also from Vera Wang. The black leather shoes are also from the designer’s Fall 2017 collection.
