Color us unsurprised. After cleaning out virtually every award show this year, Emma Stone finally brought home the major hardware: An Oscar.
The actress received a nod of approval from the Academy for her work on “La La Land” as she received the “Best Actress” award at the 2017 Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
A Stunning Entrance in a Flapper-Inspired Givenchy Gown
Emma arrived at the 2017 awards in a “La La Land”-inspired flapper dress, perfectly embodying the elegance of old Hollywood glamour.
Her gown’s refined silhouette demonstrated the philosophy of Hubert de Givenchy, who once said, “Like in great painting and architecture, in couture, to make clothes you must eliminate, eliminate, eliminate to obtain the true sense of a line. You see, the more you add, the more you load on, the more it’s mad. You must try to have just the silhouette, which is an intelligence in clothes.”
Despite all the pressure of being the evening’s favorite, Emma appeared calm and collected, letting the simplicity and brilliance of her gown speak volumes.

A Closer Look at Emma’s Custom Givenchy Gown
Emma wore a custom haute couture Givenchy dress that reportedly took 1,700 hours to make. That’s roughly two and a half months without sleeping, eating, or taking breaks. The dress had a fully beaded bodice that swept into soft fringe layers.
Her dress was Riccardo Tisci’s last Oscar creation before leaving his position as Givenchy’s creative director. The actress finished her Oscar look with custom Givenchy satin sandals and jewelry from Tiffany & Co.

Emma looked magnificent in her haute couture gown from Givenchy. It featured a sleeveless design, a sweetheart neckline, and fringed tiers. Her dress also has beaded embellishments, crystal embroidery, and ombré accents.
The actress kept her old Hollywood style by styling her hair into soft vintage waves. The gorgeous auburn shade of her hair complemented her brick-red lips.
Making a Statement on the Red Carpet
Emma finished off her look with a blink-or-you’ll-miss-it accessory. She wore a Planned Parenthood pin to show her support for the organization.
Emma was one of several actors who used the red carpet opportunity to send powerful messages. Ruth Negga also proudly supported the American Civil Liberties Union at this year’s Oscars.

Emma’s Emotional Oscar Moment
A visibly emotional Emma kept her composure as she walked up to the stage to accept her award. The actress gave a shoutout to her “La La Land” co-star Ryan Gosling, hugging him after her name was called. Emma thanked Ryan for making her laugh and “always raising the bar.”
Emma also reacted to the Best Picture mix-up. The actress tried to clear up the confusion by stating that she had been holding on to her “Best Actress” card when the wrong film title was called out, even though the mix-up between “La La Land” and “Moonlight” was due to the card.
Emma Stone’s collaboration with Givenchy has consistently showcased her impeccable style on the red carpet. In February 2024, at the 76th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards, Emma turned heads in a vintage Givenchy pink dress from the Spring/Summer 2003 archives, reaffirming her status as a fashion icon. Her enduring partnership with Givenchy continues to leave a lasting impression in the fashion world.
