No one saw this coming! Katy Perry made headlines on Wednesday for making a surprise appearance at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards. She wore a risqué red-hot outfit that exposed her thong and intriguing 3D lower back tattoo.
I was surprised to see her return to her signature risky, unconventional, and bold style after she had shown a preference for more understated elegance and sophistication over the past few years.
In a two-piece vibrant red look by Ellie Misner, a London-based designer known for her corsetry and sustainably handmade creations, she left little to the imagination.

Capturing the Spotlight
Always attracting attention with her strong presence and unique wardrobe selections, Katy Perry, as expected, stole the spotlight from the night’s honorees with her sexy red ensemble, which I find unflattering on her.
Perry showcased her hourglass curves in the “Boleyn” two-piece outfit from Ellie Misner’s Demi Couture 2024 collection. It comprised a strapless corset peplum top with a lace-up back and a matching low-rise mermaid skirt with a gray layer underneath.
Perry’s wardrobe choice for the ceremony only served to bring all the attention to her. Ensuring every angle was captured, she flirtatiously posed for photographers on the red carpet, adding to the sensual mood of the look.

Mixed Feelings on the Fashion Front
I am usually enamored by Katy Perry’s unique red carpet outfits, but this ill-fitting red look just didn’t do it for me. The skirt, in particular, was too much for my liking.
While it seemed pretty modest in the front—fitted around the hips and flared right below the knees—the back was unabashedly provocative.
It featured the same lace-up back as her corset top, intentionally left loosely opened, exposing her backside and black G-strings.
The daring ensemble also showcased her butterfly body art placed on her lower back. While it looked like a 3D tattoo in flesh-colored ink, it was later revealed to be a prosthetic created by prosthetic makeup artist Hugo Villasenor.

Styling and Accessories
To be honest, I think the styling was impeccable. I love how her stylist, Tatiana Waterford, balanced the racy number with classic jewelry, accessorizing Perry’s provocative ensemble with an Assael pearl necklace and pearl drop earrings.
At one point on the red carpet, the American Idol judge, who founded her eponymous shoe line in 2017, was seen flipping her skirt to make sure her towering platform footwear got noticed.
She wore the Super Elevated Court Pumps from Vivienne Westwood’s Fall/Winter 1993/1994 collection, which Waterford sourced from Pechuga Vintage.
These pumps are cut from moc-croc leather and boast about 5-inch platforms and 8.25-inch heels.

Glam Team Magic
I am mesmerized by her glam as well. She had her shiny black hair pulled into a sleek high ponytail with extensions and choppy micro fringe by Rick Henry.
Michael Anthony, meanwhile, highlighted her blue eyes with fake eyelashes, eyeliner, and soft nude-pink eyeshadow. He also applied rosy blush on her cheekbones and finished her glam with vibrant red lipstick.
Shigeko Taylor completed Katy’s seductive look with long black nails.

A Tribute to Friendship and Support
Orlando Bloom’s fiancée was at the event to present Capitol Chair and CEO Michelle Jubelirer with the Executive of the Year honor.
“I am so grateful to be here today to celebrate my dear friend and my iced latte hiking buddy Michelle Jubelirer,” Perry said as she introduced Jubelirer. “She has been a beacon for artists, nurturing their talents and supporting their personal growth. She heard me, she saw me, she created space for me, even supported me through my journey of motherhood.”
