What is your first thought when it comes to velvet?
Honestly, the medieval period first comes to mind — you know, that period when everybody wore gowns every day in Europe, and the punishment for most crimes involved cutting off the involved body parts.
That and curtains — heavy curtains used in castles to draw out the light and the cold.

We don’t often see velvet gowns or drapes in the 21st century. That’s why we didn’t know what we felt about Diane Kruger’s Alberta Ferretti dress at first.
On a red carpet full of sheer cutouts and skin, Diane’s 3/4-sleeve deep plum gown stood out. The Troy actress accessorized with H. Stern earrings and a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch.

She and long-time beau Joshua Jackson celebrated 180 years of Jaeger-LeCoultre (a Swiss watch company founded by Antoine LeCoultre in 1833) in an elegant gala night at the 2013 Venice Film Festival.
The event was held at the Teatro La Fenice, an opera house in Venice, Italy.

Take a closer look at Joshua’s right foot. I’ve been wondering what kind of haute couture designer shoe is when I realized it’s custom-made to accommodate his injured foot! From afar, it looks like a black pair of Chuck Taylors.
