Young Woman and the Sea is now out in theaters! Before its release, Daisy Ridley walked the red carpet at the biographical sports drama’s London premiere, looking sleek in a navy latex dress.

Ridley, who portrays competitive swimmer Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle in the movie, has been subtly embracing method dressing, wearing mostly blue outfits throughout the film’s promotional tour.

In keeping with the press tour theme, Ridley showed up for the Young Woman and the Sea’s Curzon Mayfair screening in a sleek navy dress that reminded me of a neoprene wet suit.

Sleek in Navy Latex Dress

Although I was not thrilled with Ridley’s press tour outfit choices, I was charmed by her more contemporary appearance for the London premiere of her new project.

Ridley’s stylist, Leith Clark, worked with Japanese designer Atsuko Kudo to create this striking latex outfit. Kudo is known for using latex creatively in her stunning womenswear designs, changing the public’s perception of the material—which is usually associated with bondage costumes.

Ridley’s “Alejandra” dress, which displays Kudo’s craftsmanship, beautifully accentuates her figure—something I didn’t see in her press tour outfits.

The sophisticated dress features a stunning bodice with a daring plunging v-neckline that skims the navel and leads to an impeccably cinched waist, perfectly highlighting Ridley’s physique. It has a built-in waspie corset with carefully structured boning and a decorative steel buckle at the center front.

The mid-length fitted puff sleeves and the midi flared skirt, which hits Daisy’s mid-calf, completed the dress’s feminine appearance.

I initially thought Ridley wore a black latex dress, but the navy-blue hue shows through in different lighting. Atsuko Kudo’s famous customers include Kim Kardashian, Rita Ora, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce.

A Monochromatic Finish with Ivory Scuba Heels

I commend her stylist, Leith Clark, for putting together Ridley’s premiere ensemble. She cleverly completed the aquatic theme of the look with white scuba-style shoes from Alessandra Vigilante’s collection.

The off-white pumps feature a zipped vamp with silver metal hardware and leather pulls. They also have pointed toes and are finished with stiletto heels, adding a few inches to Daisy’s 5’7” height.

Clark’s famous clientele includes Rosamund Pike, Lucy Boynton, and Keira Knightley.

Sleek Glam and Accessories

Clark enhanced Ridley’s ensemble with sparkling jewelry by Boucheron. She wore mismatched earrings featuring the $5,600 Serpente Bohème 18k white gold stud earring set with 16 0.49-carat round diamonds and the $4,110 Serpent Bohème 18k white gold single stud earring encrusted with one 1.53-carat pear aquaprase and eight 0.16-carat round diamonds.

Ridley adorned her hands with several rings, including the $10,250 Serpent Bohème 18k white gold ring with two Serpente Bohème motifs in white gold paved with 16 0.47-carat round diamonds and one 2.99-carat pear aquaprase stone.

I love how her glam team continued with the aquatic theme of Daisy’s appearance. Daya Ruci styled her short hair in a sleek, flipped-out wet look, while Kelly Cornwell gave her a dramatic cat-eye with peachy blush and salmon pink lipstick.
