Comme des Garçons is a Japanese fashion label that sets out to challenge the norm and strives to push the limits of fashion. It continues to produce astounding pieces that distort ideas of traditional women’s fashion and conventional notions of beauty.
Each piece in the label’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection is a visual interpretation of the inner workings of Rei Kawakubo’s mind. The designer always sets out to create something new and original, as seen on the brand’s mesmerizing runway show. It was quite a spectacle that featured models in sculptural pieces, stiff braids, and smeared black lipstick. There was a multitude of black fabrics, ruffles, hoop skirts, and voluminous dresses. Every outfit was set to a different tune from a disjointed mix, which provided an eerie and unsettling atmosphere.
