Carey Mulligan tends to favor a minimalist aesthetic in her everyday ensembles. However, she seems to prefer understated elegance in her red carpet ensembles.

In the fall of 2017, she switched it up and served three striking looks while promoting her latest film, Mudbound. Even her footwear choices have massively improved as she stepped out in gorgeous heels from Francesco Russo and Rupert Sanderson.

1. Then vs. Now: Carey Mulligan’s Evolution in Red Gowns

The 32-year-old English actress stunned in a beautiful red Giambattista Valli gown at the New York screening of “Mudbound.”

This ruby Resort 2018 number featured a jewel neckline, bishop sleeves, a floor-length skirt, and subtle ruffle details. It was also cinched at the waist with a tonal bow belt. She finished off her look with an upswept bun and a ruby lip.

It’s not the first time we’ve spotted the actress in a red dress. In December 2010, the actress attended the Moet British Independent Film Awards in a stunning outfit.

There’s an undeniable allure to the combination of platinum blonde hair and a striking red dress—the two shades create a bold contrast while harmonizing effortlessly.

My only critique? The Prabal Gurung gown was slightly too long for her frame. That aside, she looked absolutely breathtaking.

A closer look reveals the intricate detailing on the front—a seemingly random yet masterfully arranged design. The mix of sharp origami-like folds and soft draping strikes a balance between avant-garde artistry and delicate sophistication, making this dress truly one of a kind.

Perhaps Carey’s best look during this stylish promotional tour was her Grecian-style Gucci dress at the London Film Festival.

Carey channeled her inner goddess in this Resort 2018 number, which featured metallic detailing and mint green lining. It also had a V-shaped neckline embellished with a metallic silver rope.

She capped off her look with a wavy bob, soft pink lips, jewelry from Stephen Webster, and metallic gold sandals from Francesco Russo. You can shop the latest from the Italian-born, Paris-based designer at Farfetch.

One month earlier, Carey premiered her film at the Toronto International Film Festival in a chic Chanel dress. She looked effortlessly stylish in this Pre-Fall 2017 design, which featured contrasting tweed accents.

Her sleeveless dress also had a wide double-C belt and a pleated skirt. She styled it with a side-swept updo, minimal makeup, and Rupert Sanderson heels.

o complete her look, Carey opted for the Myril Plato sandals by Rupert Sanderson—elegant ankle-strap heels that perfectly balanced the sophistication of her Chanel dress.
