This MET Gala was one where not everyone understood the assignment. One celebrity who hit the nail on the head – and put her own twist on the theme – was Billie Eilish.
The Grammy-winning singer gave us gilded age meets gothic glamour in a custom Gucci look made entirely from upcycled materials by Alessandro Michele.

The Gucci dress, which showcased Billie’s boobs, was made using ivory and duchesse satin with a gathered ivory skirt, padded bustle, green sheer lace underlay and long sleeves. Eilish told Vogue that she wanted her dress to be “as eco-friendly as possible”.
It also incorporated several whimsical details, from a train that incorporated floral arrangements to an oversized tonal corsage on the pale gold corset.

She continued with the gilded glam theme of her look by accessorizing with a black choker dripping with diamonds, a pair of drop earrings, and several diamond rings.
Her MET Gala look also incorporated beige platform shoes made using vegan materials, peeking out from her gown’s front slit.

As for her take on the gilded age-meets-goth beauty look, the Oscar winner opted for a fauxhawk. She pulled her raven hair up and let loose a few wisps to create a spiky texture.
The popular singer highlighted her eyes with winged eyeliner and pink eyeshadow and completed the look with brushed-up eyebrows and pink lip color.

Following the gala, Billie attended Cardi B’s Met afterparty at The Standard hotel, where she sparked rumors of throwing shade at the 29-year-old rapper.
In footage posted online, Billie can be seen mouthing the words “so weird” while watching the rich rapper give a short speech to kick off the celebration. This led the social media users to presume that she was mocking the Bodak Yellow singer.

Cardi later took to Twitter to clear up the misunderstanding. She shared a screen capture of her convo with Eilish, saying she hates the internet for turning the party into a drama.
She captioned her post: “I hate the internet cause one, how do y’all turn one of the most lit parties into drama? Two, Ocean eyes is the song I cater to my daughter. Three, Billie is my fucking baby. Yesterday, from the met to the party, everything was drama free. Why do yallwanna turn everything into a mess?”

Billie sent Cardi a voice note to let her know the real context of the video.
“Oh my God, I was so worried you were gonna see that. I was fucking calling the people around you weird because everybody around you was showing their phones into your ass! And I was like, just look at her, with your eyes!”
Cardi then reassures Billie that she wasn’t hurt, saying, “The internet is trying to divide us. They don’t understand that you are my baby!”
One month earlier, the 20-year-old “Happier Than Ever” superstar also attended the 2022 Grammy Awards in an all-black look by Paris-based American fashion designer Rick Owens.

She was nominated for seven awards but didn’t win any of them. “I had this feeling yesterday at the Grammys because we obviously didn’t win anything — I went into the day suspecting we weren’t going to win anything,” Eilish said in an interview.
“And of course, the internet, no matter what happens, is going to be like, ‘You were robbed,’ and I’m just like, ‘I wasn’t, I have seven at home. It’s OK, it’s all good,'” she added.
