Beyoncé’s red carpet fashion choices often reflect her strong and empowered persona. This was evident during the world premiere of the animated musical drama movie, Mufasa: The Lion King, where she wore a gold gown from Balmain’s limited-edition The Lion King collection and pumps by Jimmy Choo.
Beyoncé returns to her role as Nala from the 2019 Lion King remake in the 2024 musical drama film, while her 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy makes her voice acting debut as Kiara. The mother-daughter duo turned the premiere into a family affair as they arrived with Jay-Z, the man of the house, and Tina Knowles, Bey’s mother, who had their full support.

Beyoncé Channels Power and Elegance in Gold Balmain Gown
Projecting power and confidence on the red carpet, Beyoncé wore a form-fitting strapless gown covered in glimmering mirrored polka-dot embellishments made of brass metal. I love how they stand out against the black fabric.
Beyond the reflective embellishments, I adore the gown’s silhouette, which perfectly accentuates Bey’s hourglass figure. It has structured bra cups and a teardrop-shaped keyhole cutout at the bodice, revealing a glimpse of her abs. A daring hip-high slit in the column skirt, which was fitted at the hips, also lets the legendary singer show off her legs.
Bey often experiments with cuts and silhouettes that challenge fashion conventions, and her love of clothing that accentuates her physique is evident in her latest look.
Beyoncé’s subtle nod to method dressing stands out. She looks amazing in gold, further solidifying her reputation as a symbol of excellence and power. Her dress is from the limited-edition collection that Balmain and Olivier Rousteing created for Disney to commemorate The Lion King’s 30th anniversary. Released in July, the collection blends Balmain signatures, such as elaborate details and striking silhouettes, with Africa’s artisanal heritage.

Beyoncé’s Understated Accessories Perfect Her Balmain Red-Carpet Look
I love that Beyoncé chose understated jewelry to elevate her look without detracting from the dress. She decided to forgo the necklace and bracelets in favor of dangling earrings from Lorraine Schwartz.
Beyoncé’s choice of Jimmy Choo ‘Dahl’ pumps added an unexpected twist to her look. While I initially anticipated a pale gold or another classic metallic option to match the gown, the black pumps offered contrast and a bold statement.
The ankle strap, however, slightly interrupted the elongating effect that a more streamlined pump might provide, as it draws attention to the ankle. A simpler silhouette, like classic black pointed-toe pumps, could have enhanced the leg line for a longer, leaner appearance.
That said, the Jimmy Choo shoes – with their thick high heels, platforms, and sleek pointed toes – brought a modern edge to the ensemble. Beyoncé’s stylist, Shiona Turini, still deserves praise for curating a striking and memorable red-carpet look.

Glam-wise, of course, Queen Bey doesn’t disappoint. She completed the sensual look with nude lipstick and eyeliner and added champagne eyeshadow to go with her shimmering dress.
Her long, blonde hair was fashioned in bombshell waves, falling over her shoulders.

Blue Ivy Stuns in Custom Christian Siriano Gold Ball Gown
Beyoncé’s look-alike daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, complemented her mom, Beyoncé, in a gold ball gown designed especially for her by Christian Siriano.
Looking equally glitzy, Blue Ivy’s gown is made of glossy fabric that gives it its metallic sheen, allowing the young royalty to shine on her own. It features a princess ballgown silhouette with a fitted, twisted bodice that cascades into a voluminous full skirt.
She wore her dark hair in braids and curls and completed her look with red lipstick and orangey eyeliner.

Tina Knowles and Jay-Z Stand Out in Sophisticated Premiere Looks
In my opinion, Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother, and Blue Ivy’s grandmom, looked kind of dated in a custom black Amsale pantsuit. She paired an off-the-shoulder long-sleeved top with tailored pants and cinched her waist with a wide black Schiaparelli belt.
While my taste doesn’t align with the Knowles matriarch, I have to give her credit for sporting the unconventional belt, adorned with a large cookie-dough buckle, golden eyelets, and suspended golden and crystal bijoux, including a pierced Ear and Nipple, a snail, and a tooth.
It went nicely with her piles of gold bracelets that gleamed against her black leather opera gloves.

Jay-Z, meanwhile, sported a brown suit with a white shirt and a black tie. This surprised red-carpet appearance came on the heels of a sexual assault allegation, which reportedly occurred after the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000.
Denying the accusations, Jay-Z called the allegations “idiotic” and “heinous in nature.” “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?”
“These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case,” he said in a statement to NBC News.
