Bellamy Young on Scandal: Behind-the-Scenes Secrets and Cast Camaraderie
In her red carpet interview with Red Carpet Roxy at The Details premiere, Bellamy Young opened up about the close-knit environment on the set of Scandal. Describing it as the “tightest knit, most connected and loving cast” she’s ever experienced, she explained, “It’s like a cult—we all drank the Kool-Aid. We all gleefully drank the Kool-Aid, and we genuinely love and respect each other.”
She added that this supportive atmosphere extends to everyone involved in the show: “The writers and the crew… it’s a very happy place to work. It really is—it’s a gift, honestly.”
When asked about any potential on-set drama, Young laughed, saying, “There are no cat fights on set at all… it is really love fast! We have hashtag ‘scandal lovey dovey.’” She even joked that their camaraderie might make other shows’ casts “kind of sick and jealous.”
Young also shared some behind-the-scenes production secrets, revealing that Scandal’s Washington, D.C., scenes are actually filmed on a green screen in Los Angeles. “I did a scene like two weeks ago in front of the Lincoln Memorial, and I really thought… maybe we’ll get to go for a couple of days,” she said. “They’re like, ‘green screen, beautiful building in downtown L.A.’” Recalling another experience, she added, “We were literally just walking through the mud in Griffith Park… it looked amazing, it looked like the real deal.”
Teasing the upcoming season, Young promised viewers more “mayhem and scheming,” along with deeper insights into the mysterious syndicate: “You’ll find out more about the syndicate at the table, how we got into the White House, what different fingers in different pies.” She hinted at the moral cost for the characters, saying, “You really start to see… the lengths almost every character will go to get what they want… and what the price of that is.” Fans can expect “scandals upon scandals,” with the show delivering “political scandal to the nth degree” and exploring themes of “loyalty and allegiance.”
