Having recently jetted off to Beijing to spend quality time with her beau, Mila Kunis did the same with her Ukrainian mom, Elvira, who was in LA earlier this week.
In 1991, at the age of seven, Mila and her family, including her parents and brother Michael, moved to the United States from Ukraine. During her childhood in Ukraine, she concealed her Jewish heritage to avoid persecution.

Understanding Mila: Her Heritage and Early Challenges
Milena Markovna Kunis was born in the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi on August 14, 1983.
“My whole family was in the Holocaust. My grandparents passed and not many survived,” Mila said in an interview published in The Sun.
“After the Holocaust, in Russia, you were not allowed to be religious. So my parents raised me to know I was Jewish. You know who you are inside,” she added.

Building a New Life: The Kunis Family’s American Dream
After relocating to the U.S., her father, Mark Kunis, a mechanical engineer by profession, took up a job as a cab driver to support the family. Meanwhile, her mother, formerly a physics teacher, began a new career working at a local pharmacy.
“My parents both had amazing jobs, and I was very lucky,” she told The Telegraph in September 2011.
“We were not poor when we lived in Russia, whereas most people were very unfortunate. My parents thought that my brother and I would have no future there, though, so we moved to the United States.”
“That was all we were allowed to take with us,” she told the newspaper about arriving in a new country with just $250 in cash. “My parents had given up good jobs and degrees, which were not transferable.”
