Miley Cyrus Refuses to Lip-Sync on X Factor UK: Live Performance Backfires

While singers are often criticized for lip-syncing when performing live on television, the opposite can happen.

The X Factor UK producers reportedly threatened to cut Miley Cyrus from the show unless she agreed to pre-record her performance of “Wrecking Ball.”

However, the 20-year-old refused to pre-record and insisted on performing the song live. Unfortunately, her decision led to a performance that received largely negative reactions from fans and critics.

Miley began her rendition of the hit single while seated atop a fake sand dune placed inside a large box.

Dressed in a gold crepe dress by Marc Jacobs and wearing Chanel jewelry, she climbed down from the dune while attempting to sing.

The Nashville-born singer had been told to dress modestly for the family show, but reactions to her outfit were as mixed as those to her singing.

Viewers repeatedly compared her singing to the sound of a goat, with many describing it as “yodeling” and some even suggesting she sounded like a “female Nicholas Cage.”
