Amsterdam won’t hit theaters until October 7, but it’s already become one of the most anticipated movies this year. The reason? Its ensemble cast and award-winning director.
The period mystery comedy is written, directed, and co-produced by David O.Russell, the same man behind American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook.
Filmed in Los Angeles from January to March 2021, Amsterdam features a star-studded cast—Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Zoe Saldaña, Taylor Swift, Robert De Niro, Rami Malek, and Anya Taylor-Joy, to name a few.

On Wednesday, the cast of Amsterdam gathered at London’s Odeon Luxe cinema in Leicester Square for the European premiere of the movie. They appeared to be paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II as they all opted for black ensembles.
Bale looked neat in a black blazer with a matching shirt underneath and a pair of black trousers. He was accompanied by his wife, Sibi Blazic, who stole his thunder in a form-fitting black midi dress with sheer long sleeves.
How did Sibi Blazic meet Christian Bale?
Married since January 2000, they first met when she was working as a personal assistant to Bale’s friend and Little Women co-star Winona Ryder.
“Everyone was divorced in my family so I didn’t have very healthy ideas about marriage. Then I met Sibi and suddenly it seemed a fantastic idea,“ he told The Sydney Morning Herald about meeting his wife.
Sibi Blazic, who was born into a family of Serbian immigrants, and Christian Bale are the parents of two children, Emmeline Bale, born in 2005, and Joseph Bale, born in 2014.

Born on April 14, 1970, in Chicago, she is four years older than her husband, who was born on January 30, 1974, in Haverfordwest, the county town of Pembrokeshire in Wales.
“I’ve got incredible pride for my family,” he told Esquire in 2010. “I’ve absolutely fallen into that cliché of a dad who could just happily talk about my daughter endlessly, but it’s not what I’m about in terms of being an actor. I don’t want people to know about that.”

In a quick interview with Reuters during the premiere, Bale shared how Russell got his cast involved in creating Amsterdam.
“He had no script. He just had a couple of ideas. We started trading music that we would listen to, bits of history that we would learn about. David would scribble all this down. And then, over years and years, came up with this story.”
Margot also shared that she pitched her ideas for her character, Valerie. “I was talking to David about Valerie for years before we actually got around to making the film. It was kind of like a creative process that kept evolving.”

“[Director David O. Russell] doesn’t want to stop and he could go forever, and so could Christian [Bale],” Margot said.
She added, “They’re both so dedicated to this film and their craft that David never called cut on this film. So technically we didn’t ever really stop.”
The local police later arrived on the production set and were forced to stop them after their permit expired.
“It was the last day of shooting and Christian was saying his dialogue and David’s there and he’s directing… but the permit, you know, the curfew was up.”
She went on to say, “We were in Pasadena and the time was up. And we were meant to clear out, but we wouldn’t. And the producers are freaking out and David’s still going and Christian’s still acting. And then, eventually, the Pasadena Police literally were in the set with us all being like, ‘Stop. You have to stop.’”
