Christina Aguilera stole the spotlight at the 34th GLAAD Media Awards in The Beverly Hilton, Los Angeles, on March 30, captivating everyone’s attention with her presence.
The 42-year-old singer-songwriter received the Advocate for Change award for her global contributions to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Christina arrived in a sweeping black gown created by Spanish designer Luis De Javier from a high-shine, heavily sequined fabric that made her radiate brightly. Her ensemble featured an asymmetrical plunging neckline and off-the-shoulder styling that showcased her curves.
But that wasn’t all, as the dress also had a long train that flowed behind the hitmaker. The star gave the outfit a dramatic edge by accessorizing it with a matching set of full-length gloves that flared out around her shoulders.
Christina accessorized her outfit with silver Gismondi 1754 jewelry and Cicada pieces studded with dazzling diamonds. The jewels complemented the sequined gown perfectly and added an extra layer of sparkle to her look.

Although it wasn’t visible, the singer was probably wearing pointed heels. Her hair was down, pinned back on the right side to reveal her dazzling choker necklaces and chandelier earrings.
Her makeup was flawless, with a thick wing of eyeliner and a bold hue of berry red on her lips, making her look every bit the superstar she was.
The Advocate for Change Award was presented to Christina by Michael Anderson, a survivor of the shooting at Colorado Springs’ Club Q. The organization gave the Award in recognition of her decades-long allyship in advancing the acceptance of the LGBTQ community.
In her acceptance speech, the singer thanked the LGBTQ community and spoke about her experience being a part of it.

She started her message by saying, “Looking out at this audience, I see so many familiar faces and beautiful people, and I’m so proud to be in this room with all of you.”
Christina continued sharing her experience, “I grew up in this community as most of my lifelong best friends identify as LGBTQ. So much of who I am and what I do is because of each of you and our shared experience of having to fight for equality and freedom in some capacity.”
The diva talked about how much the community has influenced her life, saying, “Side by side, we’ve learned and taught each other everything about life, from business to relationships to music, family, and partying. I don’t know who does it better.”

She also talked about the serious issues affecting the LGBTQ community and how she is all too familiar with the suffering caused by violence.
Christina continued, “While I’ve had years of incredible moments with this family, the community has endured decades of fighting, and we will continue to do so. I’m constantly impressed by your examples of the courage it takes to fight for acceptance, respect, and safety that every human being deserves,” adding, “which happens to be the core message of the music and art I’ve created over the years.”
The star spoke about her experiences growing up in a home with domestic violence and how it ignited her to “speak up for all of the people whose voices don’t get heard.”

She elaborated, “When you’ve been a victim of violence, abuse, or trauma, it’s incredibly hard and scary to find your voice and fight back. Having grown up in a home with domestic violence, it was seeing my mom in a powerless position that first ignited the fire in me to speak up for all of the people whose voices don’t get heard. And it is not easy.”
Christina praised Michael Anderson for his courage in traveling to Washington to address lawmakers following the Club Q attack, saying, “It takes incredible courage to live through violence and then decide, ‘I’m going to do something to change it.'”

She concluded, “That takes guts. We all need to raise our voices if we want to live in a world that’s free of discrimination, hate, and violence.”
Christina Aguilera’s fashion choice for the 2023 GLAAD Media Awards perfectly represented her style and personality.
But more than the sequined gown and glamorous accessories, her speech and award were a reminder of her unwavering support for the LGBTQIA+ community and her commitment to using her platform for positive change.
