If you think ‘Sex in the City’ is the ultimate shoe movie, then think again. ‘Kinky Boots’ may not have a range of designer names dressing its script, but it embodies the heart and soul of shoes — and then some. With music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper, the musical will make its Broadway debut at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on April 4, 2013

Based on the 2005 film by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, ‘Kinky Boots’ centers on Charlie Price and his struggle to keep his family’s shoe factory from bankruptcy. He meets drag queen Lola who inspires him to diversify his market. The two collaborate to produce sturdy (and fabulous!) boots and embark on an unlikely adventure of self-discovery.

So, music, theater, and drag queens — those were enough to get the best of Broadway and Hollywood at the premiere last April 4 at the Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City. Cyndi Lauper was there, of course, sporting racy midcalf booties with a black dress. Another notable pair of boots was on Countess LuAnn de Lesseps — peep-toe ankle booties that Carson Kressley enthusiastically presented to the press.

None of those designer shoes can live up to the red over-the-knee lace-up boots of ‘Kinky Boots’ though. If you’re feeling fab, you might want to check out Dereon’s silvery thigh-high boots at Amazon. They’re not red, but they’re pretty out there, too.
