Following its TIFF world premiere, the heartwarming family movie The Wild Robot achieved a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating of 98%. Reviewers and moviegoers have named it the best animated film of 2024. Unsurprisingly, it crossed the $100 million mark at the global box office in its third weekend.
Amidst the movie’s current success, Lupita Nyong’o, who provides the voice of the lead character, Rozzum, unit 7134, continues participating in the movie’s promotion. Over the weekend, she flew to London to attend The Wild Robot’s premiere and photocall at the 68th BFI London Film Festival.

Although Lupita’s outfits at the 72nd San Sebastian International Film Festival were fantastic, I can’t say the same about her recent appearance.
Festive Fashion: Lupita’s Christmas-Inspired Look in October
While some countries embrace early Christmas celebrations, wearing a festive outfit in October for a high-profile event feels a bit out of place. Lupita’s outfit choice for the BFI London Film Festival premiere of The Wild Robot didn’t quite appeal to me.
Don’t get me wrong; I liked Lupita’s choice of sleek tweed suit from Chanel’s Fall 2021 Haute Couture collection. It’s elegant in eggshell color, with peak lapels, covered front buttons, and an interesting four-pocket design on the front. The fit evokes a sense of timeless elegance.

It’s her scarf that makes me want to look away. I know it’s already scarf season, but Lupita’s is very Christmassy. It features thick, shimmering silver tinsel-like tassels, but upon closer look, they are actually sequined tassels. I think it would fit the Christmas tree better than Lupita’s neck. It clearly overshadowed her sleek, elegant suit!
Originally, the model had the scarf draped on one side, which I thought was acceptable, but Lupita made it appear as though she was wrapped in a glittering blanket.
Since the scarf is so shimmering, I would forgo wearing jewelry, but the A Quiet Place: Day One star probably felt it wasn’t enough. She donned double silver hoop earrings and matching silver rings, enhancing the look’s radiance.

Of course, to maintain coherence, she paired the ensemble with silver peep-toe heels. Those 4-inch heels added several inches to her 5’5” height, an inch higher than the average American woman’s.
I’m glad Lupita added her signature whimsical touch to the holiday ensemble with her Chanel robot bag, which fit her movie.
She stored her necessities in the Robot Miniaudière from the house’s 2017 collection, which was done in a robot shape with the CC logo and Chanel’s signature chain-and-leather strap. I would love this look if she had not worn the huge scarf.

During her session at Deadline’s Contenders London, Lupita Nyong’o humorously shared that AI voices like Alexa and Siri inspired her for her role in The Wild Robot.
In the animated film, based on Peter Brown’s award-winning novel, Nyong’o voices ROZZUM unit 7134, or “Roz,” a robot stranded on an uninhabited island. Roz learns to adapt to her surroundings, forms a bond with the island’s animals, and eventually becomes the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.
Alexa, Siri, and, you know, those voices on TikTok and Instagram that are so positive and nothing’s ever wrong. That sort of can-do attitude. That was the starting point for Roz and her journey to self-actualization and evolution of self-expression.
Bold and Fierce: Lupita Embraces Animal Prints at BFI
The next day, for her Screen Talk at the 68th BFI London Film Festival, Lupita walked on the wild side and donned an animal print dress, which I believe is a subtle reference to her new movie.
I’m unsure if I fully like this outfit, but it’s definitely an improvement over her previous one. The long-sleeved, high-necked, form-fitting dress, covered in a bold black-and-yellow pattern, may be a bit much, but I love how it complements her skin tone.
Additionally, it features gathered ruching at the waist, highlighting her slender body even more.

Lupita and her stylist, Micaela Erlanger, kept the rest of the look simple, styling with just a pair of diamond stud earrings and a few rings.
She rounded out the ensemble with basic black patent d’Orsay pumps with towering stiletto heels to accentuate her height. With her hair pulled back in a bun, the Black Panther star emphasized her features with vibrant red lipstick and smokey eye makeup.
