Margot Robbie is putting her spin on the classic little black dress by injecting a dash of Barbie flair. During the weekend, she walked the red carpets at the Producers Guild and Screen Actors Guild Awards, commanding attention in two unconventional LBDs.
I understand that some of you are already tired of the endless Mattel-inspired outfits she has been sporting since the start of the Barbie promotional tour last year, as any overused trend eventually becomes dull and loses appeal.
Although Margot Robbie’s Barbie-inspired red carpet outfits are becoming repetitive, she still looks fantastic in them.
Barbie-esque Retro Power Dressing in Balmain
Gracing the red carpet at the Ovation Hollywood for the 35th Annual Producers Guild of America Awards, Margot Robbie showcased her take on retro power dressing in a blazer mini dress by Balmain, a French fashion house known for its boldly feminine and elegant designs.
In case you didn’t know, power dressing emerged in the 1970s to assert women’s equality with men in the corporate world. While it mainly started with masculine-inspired suits, power dressing has evolved to include blazer dresses, injecting feminine influences into the look.

As someone with an affinity for anything vintage, I was particularly drawn to Margot’s Pre-Fall 2024 blazer mini dress, which was heavily influenced by the 1980s. The black and white color, sharp silhouette, tight waist, and peplum accent enhanced the retro vibe of the outfit.
On the runway, the dress had a wider, more daring off-the-shoulder neckline created by the pointy white satin peak lapels. But Margot kept things somewhat modest for the PGA Awards, folding the lapels and incorporating a sheer fabric to secure the plunging neckline and avoid any wardrobe mishaps.
I love the structured peplum detail and the thigh-grazing mini skirt underneath, allowing Robbie to parade her toned pins.
With its tight waist, big hips, and shawl-like shoulders, this Balmain dress gave me major flashbacks to Dior’s iconic New Look.

Accessorizing the Look: From Shoes to Jewels
Robbie highlighted her outfit by accessorizing it with the timeless, celebrity-favorite Manolo Blahnik “BB” shoes. These black satin pumps have pointed toes, low-cut vamps, and 4-inch heels.
Margot carried her red carpet essentials in the minimalistic $795 Hunting Season small top handle bag, which I think went well with her dress’s sleek and clean lines. It featured a refined and sleek form, giving the traditional lady handbag a contemporary update.

Margot looked impeccably put together, thanks to her stylist, Andrew Mukamal, who added some glitter to her appearance with jewelry from Jacob & Co. I love how her diamond necklace, though glitzy, didn’t overshadow her dress.
Additionally, she wore a pair of diamond rings from Jacob & Co. and had Betina Goldstein paint her nails a sheer ivory color using two coats of Chanel Le Vernis in White Silk.

Bryce Scarlett styled her blonde hair straight with a center parting, while Pati Dubroff completed her Boss Barbie look with peachy eyeshadow, mascara, blush, and nude lipstick.

From Trendy to Tacky in Schiaparelli
Margot Robbie has donned many Barbie-inspired outfits throughout the fantasy comedy film’s press tour. Although she received much acclaim for her wardrobe selections that paid homage to the legendary doll, her 2024 SAG Awards ensemble, in my opinion, did not live up to expectations.
Although I think Robbie looks great in LBDs, I wasn’t impressed with this Schiaparelli style.
The Making of a Never-Before-Seen Gown
Fun fact: this gown was part of Daniel Roseberry’s Fall 2020 collection for Schiaparelli, but it was never produced due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Stuck in New York at the time, Roseberry said in a statement, “Instead of Place Vendome in Paris, it’s been designed and sketched on a park bench.”
Roseberry presented the collection as watercolor sketches and produced only a portion of those sketches when he came back to Paris. Four years later, Roseberry brought the gown to life, with today’s real-life Barbie, Margot Robbie, as the perfect person to wear it.

The eye-catching dress featured a strapless, thigh-grazing LBD adorned with a pink belt that encircled her waist and shoulder before cascading into a dramatic, sculptural train.
Although I adore the traditional Barbie colors of pink and black, I’m not a fan of how it was structured.
Mixed Reactions to Margot’s Latest Look
Netizens had mixed feelings about her latest red carpet appearance. While some people compared the hefty pink train to a duvet, others were eager to know what Barbie look she would wear to the Oscars.

The Final Touches: Makeup and Accessories
I like how little jewelry Andrew Mukamal used to accessorize this opulent ensemble. He put a single diamond ring on her finger and secured a set of diamond drop earrings to her ears. Although the diamond anklet, in my opinion, is unnecessary, it somehow added oomph to the ensemble.
Regarding her beauty, Margot applied Barbie pink makeup to accentuate her blue eyes and styled her long blonde hair in lovely waves.
Her Jelly pink nails, reminiscent of the iconic vintage Barbie jelly shoes, completed Margot’s evening look.
