Aaron Carter died tragically at the young age of 34 years old at his home in Lancaster, California, on November 5, 2022. He had an estimated net worth of $550 thousand at the time of his death.

It was reported that a 911 call was made at 11 in the morning, prompting authorities to rush to his home.

According to TMZ, law enforcement sources were told that “a male had drowned in the tub” and that there was “no information or evidence of foul play.”

However, The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner recently released its findings and confirmed that drowning is the official cause of death.

“On the morning of November 5, 2022, Mr. Carter was found submerged in the bathtub at his residence, located in Lancaster, by his reported housekeeper who called 911 and was instructed to begin CPR,” the medical examiner said. “Paramedics were called to the location and Mr. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:14 a.m.”

According to the report, Carter became “submerged” in the bathtub after “inhalation of compressed gas and intake of alprazolam.”

Despite news ruling out drowning as the cause of death, the medical examiner confirmed otherwise and added that the contributing effects were “difluoroethane, a flammable gas that is often used as the propellant in cans of compressed air, and alprazolam, a generic form of Xanax,” as reported by Page Six.

Aaron Carter’s death was ruled an accident, and ex-fiancée Melanie Martin was not happy with the autopsy results.

Closure?

“The results of the autopsy are not closure for me,” Melanie Martin told TMZ.

“It claims death is by drowning but also adds he was wearing a t-shirt and necklace in the bathtub which doesn’t make sense, why would he be in a bathtub with clothes on? I am still in shock and still miss Aaron every day. I don’t understand the chain of events and this report only has us asking more questions.”

Carter’s former team also spoke out after the results of his autopsy were released.

His former rep Holly Davidson of ICT PR told Entertainment Tonight, “We are glad this case is finally closed so we can have a celebration of life and send him off to rest.”

She continued, “Our team actively tried to implement a plan to rehabilitate a recovery to health, however, due to outside influences and triggering dysfunctional relationships, these circumstances made it a challenge.”

Aaron Carter followed in the footsteps of his brother and Paris Hilton’s ex Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, and enjoyed years being a pop star and an actor.

But as in the case of several child stars, who grew up in the limelight, Aaron Carter famously battled issues with substance abuse for years.

A few months before his death, he interviewed with The U.S. Sun.

He opened up about deciding to enter a rehabilitation program to regain custody of his 10-month-old son Prince from his then-partner Melanie Martin.

In the interview, he made it clear that it wasn’t a relapse that made him decide to go to rehab. “I haven’t had any relapses or anything like that, it’s just triggers are big right now for me [and] I want my son back.”

Carter also made it clear that the rehabilitation program was not court ordered, and that it was a voluntary decision on his part.

Angel’s Calling

A little over a month after Aaron Carter’s passing, on what would have been his 35th birthday, his twin sister Angel made a post on Instagram, sharing a photo of the two of them and writing a heartfelt message.

“It feels unfair… I feel too young to carry the weight of losing two of my siblings,” Angel said of brother Aaron and sister Leslie, who died in 2012.

“When we lost Leslie, I was blindsided and shocked. With Aaron, however, we had tried everything,” Angel wrote. “In fact, I spoke with him two days before he passed, and I begged, once again, for him to let us help. I did not know that would be the last time that I would ever hear his voice. And now, I sit here on our birthday, trying to navigate this unimaginable loss because of untreated mental illness and the addiction that it led to.”

Angel continued, “Aaron dying was the worst day of my life. I have loved him since we were born… it feels like a piece of my soul is gone. And yet, despite all this pain, his passing has lit a fire within me. I feel a calling and responsibility to help other families and continue the conversation to further break the stigmas that surround mental illness.”
