This year’s Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2023 shows saw a lot of notable collections. But one look went viral and made fashion history.
French womenswear brand Coperni’s fashion presentation stood out, thanks to the spray-on dress modeled by Bella Hadid.

The 25-year-old in-demand model showed up on the runway in nothing but nude thong underwear and white kitten heels before she was spray-painted with a figure-hugging white dress live.
Combining fashion with art and science, Coperni founders Sèbastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant partnered with Dr. Manel Torres—inventor of the patented Fabrican spray technology—to create their final look.

Torres himself and two technicians applied the innovative misty liquid onto Bella’s body. A few minutes later, the audience watched in awe as the spray paint turned into a form-fitting white dress.
A Coperni designer then shaped the straps into an off-the-shoulder silhouette, trimmed the hem, and cut a daring thigh-high slit on one side.

“We wanted to dedicate this moment to Dr. Torres because we respect what he does so much,” Vaillant told Vogue. “We felt that it was absolutely necessary that he led the performance — to us, that makes the experience even more magical.”
“You can wear this dress, keep it as a dress, and hang it on a hanger. But if you don’t want it anymore, you can put the dress back in the liquid and spray it again right away,” Meyer told CNN ahead of the show.

Bella shared with her Instagram followers a photo of herself getting sprayed on, with the caption: “There is no singular person more important than the next. Only together can we make magic… Thank you for all of the love… I am still speechless.”
What Is Fabrican Spray?
The Fabrican spray technology has been in development since the early 2000s. It was reportedly inspired by silly string and has been used in packaging and automotive industries.
“The technology consists of short fibers bound together with polymers and biopolymers, and greener solvents that deliver the fabric in liquid form, then evaporate when the spray reaches a surface,” Coperni said in a statement.
“The texture of the fabric can be changed according to the fibers (synthetic and natural, such as cotton, linen, polyester or nylon as well as recycled) and binder used, and how the spray is applied.”
