Navy dresses have been dominating the red carpet recently. Formal fashion’s current fancy has forced the darker side of blue to come to light and transform into new shapes and forms.
For us, the obsession started when Amber Heard appeared at the 2014 Golden Globes. She made the usually stiff and somber color look sultry, sexy, and eye-catching, as if it were an intense, fiery shade.

Amber seemingly inspired other celebrities and their stylists, as navy dresses began to dominate red carpets shortly after her appearance.

Impeccably tailored dresses quickly became a favorite, as designers gravitated toward styles that complemented navy’s commanding, structured, and polished appeal.

However, designers, driven by their creativity, soon sought to break navy out of its traditional mold. They began incorporating bold prints, elaborate patterns, and intricate textures into navy dresses, giving the color a fresh and innovative look.
Here is navy blue being risky, adventurous, and bold—navy like you’ve never seen it before.

Avant-garde pieces? They’ve embraced the navy color, too. Metallics and gold are usually the colors paired with navy, but Kelly Osbourne demonstrated that purple could also work just as well.

On the other hand, Claire Danes showed that navy could be a stunning centerpiece accent to a black-and-nude dress.

With its origins in menswear, navy is the chic choice for suits and jumpsuits that have become red carpet dress alternatives for Hollywood’s fashion-forward set.

Surprisingly, navy has also emerged as a popular choice for those who favor traditional, princess-like gowns.
And you can’t get more princessy than Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, who was recently spotted sporting the said hue on one of her characteristically recycled dresses.

This is the new navy, and despite its exciting transformations, we’re pleased to see that it still retains the classic appeal of good old blue.
