The thought of cutting couture makes us clutch our pearls, but Sarah Jessica Parker doesn’t feel the same!

The actress revealed on Instagram that she took a pair of scissors to a no doubt expensive Monse fringe dress and cut it up before wearing it to the NYC Ballet 2017 Fall Fashion Gala.

In the short video clip, SJP’s be-ringed hand can be seen picking up five-inch strips of glittery blue fabric cut off from her fringed frock. Monse evening dresses can retail for upwards of $8,000, which would leave us shuddering.

Why She Did It: Spotlighting Her Own Shoe Label

But since this is SJP we’re talking about, her shearing sacrifice was well-intended: her dress could be shorter and properly showcase her sandals from her shoe label, SJP Collection.

Sarah Jessica Parker has closed down her SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker shoe brand. The decision was announced in August 2024, with the brand officially ceasing operations in the fall of that year after a decade in business.
