We know, we know. When an organization with the word “art” in the name — such as the Museum of Modern Art — holds an event, we should know to expect some artsy looks.
But the ensembles Cate Blanchett and Diane Kruger threw at us during MoMA’s 8th Annual Film Benefit last Tuesday in New York? We have to admit — the two actresses just looked like bad art projects.

Cate, a two-time Oscar winner, was honored for her prolific contributions to film at the benefit. In 2015 alone, Cate played two critically acclaimed roles: Mary Mapes in the film “Truth,” and Carol Aird in “Carol.”
Andrew Upton’s beautiful wife paused for a red carpet interview with Variety, where she shared a piece of advice she received from her college drama teacher.
“If you’re going to fail, fail gloriously,” she said.

Perhaps Cate took this advice way too seriously when it came to her style. The Blue Jasmine star looked like a gloriously bad art project in a Chanel Couture silk tulle and taffeta dress from the brand’s Fall 2015 collection.
She also wore an awful dress at the New York premiere of “Carol” the night before.

At least she kept things classic with her shoes, opting to wear a simple black pair of patent leather Christian Louboutin “So Kate” pumps.
She completed her look with a single statement ring.

Cate’s “The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden” co-star Diane Kruger also looked like a bad art project on the red carpet.
