Kate Middleton and Prince William surprised many people when they dressed formally at the Manly Beach in Sydney, Australia, on Friday, April 18.

The Duchess of Cambridge was seen in a lace dress by Australian designer Zimmermann and a pair of Minx wedge sandals by Stuart Weitzman, while the Duke of Cambridge donned his usual suit ensemble complete with leather shoes.
Critics thought that the royal couple dressed inappropriately for the location. They were at the beach for a visit and to meet the young members of the New South Wales Surf Life Saving Nippers club as part of their royal tour of Australia, which kicked off two days before.

Kate sure looked pretty in her white dress, which could perhaps pass as an easy breezy beach dress since it’s in white and features an eyelet design; her shoes, however, created quite a fuss in social media.

She was reportedly advised to change into flat shoes, but she refused to take her beloved Stuart Weitzman “Minx” sandals off. They are made of woven leather and feature crisscross front straps, adjustable buckled ankle straps, cushioned footbed, and cork platforms and wedges that measure about 1 inch and 4 inches, respectively.
